Beautiful example of 'socialization'.

At the puppy's pace, without cajoling them to DO anything.
Adding tasty treats to add positive associations to potentially scary things!
And - we love a long line! No tension, no learning to pull, no misinterpreting you pulling them round as a 'problem'. Loose, moving at her own pace, you just following!

We are set to resume our 'Fun Foundations'!
If you have a young puppy, or will have a new puppy joining your family soon, this is for you! 🎉✅🎉

Our 'Fun Foundations Puppy Preschool & Social Group' is a structured group lesson, with a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT, CBATI, Fear-Free), that is focused on your education, puppy foundations first, with supervised dog-dog socializing to help your puppy to 'read' and 'give' dog body language. The ultimate goal is confidence & neutrality around new people and other dogs. 😊✅😊

Now, you may be wondering how early you should take your puppy out & about, when you should start training? We advocate for the position of the AVSAB stating that puppies should experience new things in these early weeks, and NOT wait until all vaccines are done. This group is for puppies 10 weeks - 16/18 weeks of age.**
6 weeks, Sundays at 10am, Tidehead, NB (outdoors)

Each weekly session includes coaching on how your puppy learns and how to teach foundations, some playtime, summary email with applicable handouts/video links for topics discussed so you will have reference material at home.

Start date: Sept 13th (bases on registration)
And each Sunday thereafter for 6 weeks in total 10am - 11am (this is an outdoor class)

*a social group is just a small part of your puppy's overall 'early exposure training' (socialization). We'll guide you on other ways to effective build your young puppy's experiences, to raise a confident and resilient adult dog.

We all hear the buzzword - 'impulse control'. 🧐🧐

But, how do you teach impulse control to your dog? 😩😩

Let's talk about teaching your dog to be 'emotionally regulated', thoughtful, less reactive and less "impulsive".

One of the common mistakes folks make is not allowing time for your dog to think, and make a choice. Instead, you might CUE an alternate behavior - like asking for a 'sit' at the door before allowing your dog to go out, or CUING your dog to 'sit' before a meal is placed down for him.

Is that true 'impulse control'? 🧐🧐

No. Because if you were not there to cue the 'sit', would your dog really be 'thoughtful' or 'emotionally regulated' enough to not bolt through the door, or not move forward to his meal dish?

Have you taught REAL impulse control, or have you taught your dog to respond to a verbal cue, when you are there to give that verbal cue? 🧐

If your dog just happens across an open door, without you, will he wait to be given a release cue to go out? 😫

If your dog finds food unattended on the coffee table, will he wait for permission to take it? 😫

The piece most people miss is teaching the CONTEXT cues - or environmental cues because they have been busy teaching their dogs to rely on only verbal cues.
