🐱 Suspected FIC? Let’s Talk About Feline Idiopathic Cystitis! 🐱

Is your cat suddenly making frequent trips to the litter box, straining to urinate, or having accidents outside the box? These can be signs of Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC) — a common and painful bladder condition in cats.

🚩 Signs to watch for:
• Frequent trips to the litter box
• Straining or spending a long time trying to urinate
• Urinating outside the litter box
• Blood in the urine
• Excessive licking around the urinary area
• Crying or showing discomfort when urinating
➡️ These signs can be present with other urinary conditions, including infection, crystals, and stones, which are important to rule out before reaching a diagnosis of FIC.

💡 What causes FIC?
FIC is often associated with stress and inflammation of the bladder. Changes in the home, other pets, routine changes, or environmental stressors can all play a role.

❤️ How can you help?
✔️ Encourage water intake
✔️ Provide clean, accessible litter boxes
✔️ Keep your cat’s routine consistent
✔️ Offer safe hiding spaces and enrichment
✔️ Work with your veterinarian to develop an appropriate treatment and prevention plan

🚨 Important: If your cat is repeatedly trying to urinate but producing little or no urine, this can be a life-threatening urinary obstruction, especially in male cats. Seek veterinary care immediately.

If you suspect your cat may have FIC, don’t wait it out — give your veterinary team a call. 🐾

A hug a day keeps the vet scaries away 🩺

Bauer came in this week after ingesting a corn cob 🌽 As delicious as they are, they can be very unsafe for dogs and can cause severe internal blockages. Luckily, his parents got him help immediately and Dr. Cassandra was able to help this boy and remove it before it could cause any issues. Bauer was a rockstar and told us he won’t ever eat one again!

Boomer & Scout are modelling their new booties which help to protect their feet from the pavement on these extremely hot summer days!💙💗

During these extremely high temperatures it is important to protect your furry friends!

💧Ensure plenty of water is readily available.
🚷 Keep them indoors or walks extremely short, ideally during dawn or dusk.
🐾Protect paws with booties.
❄️Have cooling beds, fans or air conditioning available.
☀️Keep them out of the sun for long periods of time.
🩺Seek medical attention immediately if you are concerned if your pet is exhibiting heat stroke symptoms (excessive panting, vomiting, diarrhea, collapsing, abnormal gum or tongue colour, lethargy or weakness).
