I always joked that my puppy imprinting business would probably die without Oakley.
He was such an integral part of our puppy raising program and helped literally hundreds of puppies grow their confidence around big dogs over the years. He was the perfect playmate for the larger breed pups as they got too big to hike with the smaller pups, and the most patient teacher for dogs of all sizes. When my doberman passed away I was sure I’d never have another dog with the social skills he had, but Oakley learned from the best and carried that torch for another decade. I will be forever indebted to him for everything he taught me and brought to my business. From being a rock solid decoy dog for reactive classes to a great partner in obedience, rally and even dabbling in scent detection, Oakley was game for everything and anything I wanted to try with him. I’m sure he would’ve been a great dog for shows if I’d started performing when he was younger as well. He was just an all around solid dog who loved to work and have fun.
I’m glad he got to spend most of his life on our 32 acre property on Shantz Station road where he got to live his days hiking offleash and swimming whenever he wanted. He was always surrounded by buddies to play with and loved initiating chase games with any dog willing to engage.
Oakley was an amazing family member and a constant source of entertainment. He kept his silly sweet puppy disposition throughout his life and changed a lot of people’s opinions of the rottweiler breed by being an outstanding example.
RIP Oakley. You’ll always be our big Poke ❤️❤️❤️
