Paws and claws - most of us only think about pet nails when we hear the familiar click-clack on the hardwood floor.

Nails that get too long can curl into the paw pads, alter your pet's gait, or easily snag on blankets and carpets.
A snagged nail can split down to the quick, causing sudden pain, bleeding, and a higher risk of infection.
Redness, swelling, licking, or a foul odor around the nail bed often point to a bacterial or fungal infection.
The dog's immune system mistakenly attacks the nail matrix (the tissue responsible for growing and anchoring the claw). This causes the nails to become severely brittle, lift away from the quick, and slough off entirely.
Unfortunately sometimes we see tumours arise from the nail bed - they often causing sloughing of the nail, infection around the nail base and continue to grow. Amputation of the toe is the treatment for these.
