Riggsy's second ride! Was it chaotic, absolutely. Did we accomplish a lot, also YES! He is still getting used to having a bit in his mouth, I held him back a couple of times but for 99% of the ride I was barely touching the reins or being very gentle. The head tossing and chewing is just him still adjusting haha. Super happy with this little man, he had such a blast with this and is going to love his job 🥰 I mostly let him go where he wanted this ride to allow him to build the confidence of taking a rider for a spin and that's exactly what he did with me. I don't think I've giggled this much on a second ride in a long time.

Big thank you to Riggs for being a fantastic sport and giving me such a fun ride as well as thank you to Emily for having me start him and Liz for these videos 💕 So looking forward to our next ride 🤩

What's a good training session and how do you map out what type of goals you'll have for each ride?

Not every ride is pretty, it's not always about nailing the perfect stride or getting the perfect transition. For what I typically ride, most of my rides consist of confidence building or fixing bad habits. Here are some of the things I typically aim for in a ride instead of the pretty things:

🐴 Did my horse learn something? If so was it a behavior or trait I'd like them to keep? Whether you're training or just riding, horses learn something every time and sometimes it's not something desirable.
🐴 Was understanding there in my ride? Did my horse get frustrated and did I send clear communication signals? The release timing is very important whether you're training or just riding in general.
🐴 Did I end the session on a good note? If so did I have a couple of good notes or did I end on the first one? I typically aim to get something right a few times rather than just once. Once could be a fluke sometimes, but there are times you do need to end it on the first good result depending on frustration levels.
🐴 Did my horse enjoy the session? Did they show interest in what they were learning or were they pretty dull the whole time? I like my horses to enjoy their jobs, the fast track to this is to mix up boring things with exciting things. Train what you're working on, but add in some things they like in between so frustration levels stay low and they genuinely like their job.
🐴 Did my horse gain confidence in their work? Did they get quicker to respond to ques and did they get more excited to complete the task at hand once they understood what was being asked?

It was an extremely busy day today but everyone got looked after and lots of results were produced today! We ended the day with a couple of red light sessions with Lexi and Ace, both thoroughly enjoyed the red light and cuddles during their session 🥰

3 year old Riggs has had 3 sessions with me now to be started under saddle and today was our very first real ride 🤩 Leg pressure clicked with him today and he was happy enough to take me for a quiet little trot not too long after this clip! I always love how quiet my first rides go, my number one priority making it so that it's a good experience for the horse. We need to work on being a little less wiggly lol, but I think he'll be ready to add the saddle along with me by next week. Super happy with today's progress! He very much enjoyed lots of cuddles and kisses at the end of today's session 🤗 He's going to be another super nice horse I've gotten the pleasure to work with!

Finally, some more progress with Thomas! After a few days of feeling stuck, we got our first trot under saddle with some help from the ground. Watching him learn is so rewarding. I'm excited to see the rest click with him now that this achievement is out of the way for him. Hopefully we can get him trotting without help shortly 🤞🏻

River is currently looking for an experienced rider to come and enjoy her for a free or very low cost part board. Lessons available with her trainer and will be required.

River happily goes w/t/c and has more go than whoa in her. She's been started under saddle over the past couple of months, hence requiring an experienced rider. Has never offered any naughty behaviours and loves to please and look after her rider and loves having a job. She is just still green. Only outdoor riding areas are available where she's located, but there's a round pen, enclosed arena and a large pasture to ride in with trails just down the road that you'll have access to once she's a little less green. There are poles for pole bending and more obstacles can absolutely be made if you'd like to try anything else with her! She can absolutely go in any direction. She's got lovely owners that are super sweet and drama free. River just needs a job and somebody to love on her now that she's ready to go under saddle.

Located in Milton, minutes off of Guelph line and about 10-15 minutes off the 401. Close to Hamilton, Guelph, Cambridge and Burlington areas.

Making River safer by the day! This was from Monday and today we rode out in the big field again. I'm happy to brag about her... She felt like I was riding a broke horse today 😂🥰 Her transitions into and out of the lope were spot on, she trotted around nicely with steering and had no problem walking around without needing to go faster until I asked. So so proud of this horse ✨

The first sit on this boy and he took it like I'd done it a thousand times before. He's learnt quite a bit in just 2 sessions! We did get some forward movement later in this session and he was just as chill about it. Today was about giving him confidence with allowing someone onto his back and being honest with him about my intentions and future expectations. Now we need to do some more work on getting forward movement out of him and establishing only needing light ques for it since he's pretty unresponsive to any ques I give when it comes to asking for movement aside from leading and moving his hind end. I'm looking forward to seeing how he progresses over these next few sessions!

Two weeks off, fresh fall air... And she came back to work calm as ever 😍 It was so nice to hop back on my girl ba****ck and not be holding on for dear life 🤣 Still limited to light work at the moment, but Lexi will be back in full swing shortly! I felt bad telling her she couldn't jump yet haha, poor girl keeps going up to jumps in the arena and pointing out the ones she wants to do, it's safe to say she likes having a job 🖤

The newest addition to my program 💕 This handsome hunk has joined me to be backed over the next few weeks. Yesterday we learned how to lunge (still a work in progress) He likes to either back up or not leave your side 🤣 But we made some progress as you can see in the reel. And we also worked on not turning out and allowing me to lean on him from the mounting block which we made significantly more progress with haha. Looking forward to continuing with him next week and a big thank you to his owner for trusting me with him 🥰
