Pollinators are busy out there! A friendly reminder to all fellow beekeepers -- time to treat your hives with oxytet to help prevent American Foul Brood. And.... we were finally able to replenish our stock! Please email or call the clinic if you need oxytet for your bees.

Dr. Neil offers a yearly Zoom meeting for local beekeepers who need a prescription for oxytet. This treatment is recommended by the Ontario Bee Association in the spring and fall to prevent American Foulbrood (AFB). Have questions? Join the Zoom meeting this Monday, June 1st @ 5:30pm. Meet Meeko 🐾

Meeko is a 16-year-old patient who underwent right cruciate ligament repair surgery 9 weeks ago. Since beginning rehabilitation, she has made excellent progress with the support of therapeutic laser treatments and underwater treadmill therapy.

During the initial healing phase, Meeko received laser therapy twice weekly for two weeks to promote tissue healing around the incision and knee while she remained on strict rest. Preventative laser therapy was also applied to her left knee to help support the increased weight-bearing demands during recovery.

Following the early recovery period, Meeko gradually began weight-bearing exercises with support. Although initially hesitant with the underwater treadmill, she quickly adapted and benefited from the reduced joint impact and improved mobility provided by the water-assisted therapy.

Today, Meeko has progressed to small, controlled strengthening exercises following her rehabilitation sessions and continues to thrive throughout her recovery journey.

Meeko’s progress is a wonderful example of how rehabilitation can support successful recovery and improved quality of life, even in senior patients. After attending weekly sessions for the past 8 weeks, she is now preparing to graduate from our rehabilitation program.

We are incredibly proud of her progress!

🌱 Dog Park Off-Limits! 🐾

The fenced-in dog park area at the Wellness Centre is unavailable for a couple of weeks while we let the freshly-seeded grass take root.

When a dog has an encounter with a porcupine, it’s not always a fun one. Their sharp quills can easily embed in a dog’s face, mouth, paws, or body. Ouch!! If there are more than 6 - 10 quills, or if there are any in the mouth, it’s time to call the experts!

It might seem like a quick fix to pull the quills out at home, but it can actually make things worse, like broken quills or teaching your dog to be head shy. Quills have tiny barbs that cause them to get lodged and improper removal can lead to breakage, infection or even migration of the quill deeper into the body. For these reasons, it is important to take your dog to the veterinarian as soon as possible. We will sedate your dog and carefully remove all quills. Please don’t cut the quills – this can make our job trickier.
