A tiny wild hare was brought into our hospital by a kind-hearted person trying to help ππ
While it may seem like baby hares have been abandoned, in most cases their mom is actually nearby and returning only a few times a day to feed them β usually at dawn and dusk. This is completely normal behaviour for wild rabbits and helps avoid attracting predators to the nest.
The best thing you can do if you find a healthy baby hare is:
πΎ Leave them where they are
πΎ Keep pets and people away from the nest
πΎ Monitor from a distance
Baby hares should only be rescued if they are clearly injured, cold, covered in flies, attacked by a pet, or if the mother has been confirmed deceased.
Wildlife babies have the best chance of survival when they stay with their mother in their natural environment. Before moving them, always contact a wildlife rehabilitation organization or veterinary professional for guidance.
Thank you to everyone who cares for the little creatures we share our community with π
