ATAS was Expo Canada and racing & aftercare was front and centre. ๐
At Alberta Thoroughbred Aftercare Society, we believe aftercare is not separate from racing....itโs part of what makes the industry stronger.
Yesterdayโs panel, โOff the Track and On to Success,โ moderated by Julie Brewster with Horse Racing Alberta, brought together industry leaders working across breeding, racing, and aftercare.
Our VP, Amanda Bennett, joined alongside:
๐ Kirby Cassidy Kennedy โ Alberta Quarter Horse Racing Association
๐ Kathy Sunberg โ Performance Standardbreds
๐ Linds Turcotte โ After The Wire
The discussion focused on what Aftercare is and what it looks like in Alberta for all 3 racing breeds... what support looks like for racehorses beyond the track โ from top prospects to the more complex cases that require time, resources, and long-term commitment and how to get involved :)
This is what it looks like when the entire horse industry shows up.

All working together to rebuild momentum in Alberta.... bringing back generational horse people and opening the door for those just getting started.
All sectors of the equine industry in one place โ working together to promote and strengthen Alberta breeding, racing, and aftercare, while reconnecting generational horse people and welcoming those new to the industry.
For ATAS, the goal is clear:
support the horses, support the industry, and ensure racing continues to thrive responsibly.
The level of engagement at the Horse Racing Alberta booth afterward showed just how many people are interested... not just in aftercare, but in the future of racing as a whole.
With over 20,000 attendees filling nearly every corner of Westerner Park, Horse Expo Canada continues to be a key platform to connect the entire Equine industry.
We are proud to be part of that and to play a role in strengthening both aftercare and racing together.
Thank you to Horse Racing Alberta for your continued support.
If you havenโt made it out yet, itโs on until 4:30 PM today & well worth the trip...
**We also collaborated with Century Mile Racetrack and Casino to provide a free program voucher for those who haven't been out to experience the races! ๐ :)**
(ps..it comes with a free entry ballot for an ATAS door prize when you come visit our booth while there as well)
