A Beautiful Spring Day.

WOW talk about a beautiful spring day. Once again we are here on the banks of the amazing , where we officially hold our Basic Training Fly Fishing Lessons. It’s preseason with Susan and Jeff, who wanted to get a head start on summer. They have many friends throughout and the who love to Fly Fish and after listening to all the stories of their adventures this wonderful couple just new it was time to jumpstart their season and join in the adventures.

Basic Training is a course designed and developed for the beginner and has proven over and over that when completed, you will be able to go anywhere in North America, successfully cast a fly rod with the knowledge to catch any species of trout or pan fish in any type of water system.

Here at Shallow Water Drift Company, we are experiencing a growing demand from new anglers wanting to learn to Fly Fish as well a definite growing demand with our Guided Fly Fishing Trips we offer. So on that note, I would like to introduce our youngest new member/guide Colton Carr to our team. Colton provides an exciting new fresh look and passion to our team that you will truly appreciate.

Susan and Jeff, your both amazing people. Colton and I had an absolute blast teaching you both. It’s now your turn, your time to begin and enjoy your retirement together planning out all those new adventures😃that are going to burn memories into your minds that will last a lifetime 🙌🙌FISH/ON😎

Travelling Alberta.

It was December 2025, when Hanna Leslie, from New Zealand reach out wanting to plan and incorporate a In City Fly Fishing Trip into their 2026 summer vacation. Hanna really stressed that this was a surprise for the family and the only contact had to be kept between us strictly. While between all the emails and phone calls with the time change, I’m almost sure her husband must of felt of a new relationship building lol. The two boats were booked, the hotel was finalized and now the waiting game would begin.

Well if you all didn’t know, it was the end of June and the beginning of July and the Bow River Valley, throughout the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains was hit with massive rainfall that just never seemed to dissipate. These storms brought massive amounts of rain bringing rising river and stream flows that hadn’t been seen since the flood of 2013 and putting river closures in place till further notice.

It was two days till Hanna and her family were to arrive and the phone rang, the radio was blasting, the river closures have been lifted!! And it was go time!! My guide, Trevor Rivers and I meet the Leslie family at the hotel with our Drift Boats in tow and when the family came out of the lobby and we were all introduced the expressions of excitement on their faces was priceless.

Hanna, Trevor and I had an absolute fantastic day with you and your family, teaching all of you the techniques required to catch our amazing Brown Trout on the World Renown Bow River.

We burn memories into your minds that will last a lifetime😎🙌

82 Days.

It’s been 82 days since our last post here at Now the season is winding down, it’s definitely time to get back on the saddle to give all of you a good look into some of our most memorable moments throughout the 2026 season. So let’s give the oars a little kick and turn the Drift Boat down stream!!

We started off our season, offering our Basic Training Fly Fishing Lessons to this great group of guys. Our Basic Training curriculum and lesson plans were developed for the beginner Fly Fisher, so by the end of the course you would be able to go anywhere in North America and be able to successfully Fly Fish for Trout or any Pan Fish.

Basic Training is a full day, 8-hour course that starts you out with dry land casting, developing your casting skills. Then we move you over onto the table, teaching you all the required knots you will ever need to know, which is a hands on activity. Then we turn your attention on our Fly Boxes for BUG TALK explaining all the bugs you will require well focusing on our rivers and streams throughout our area. HOLD it, did someone call lunch!! That’s right now it’s time to take a break relax well we BBQ an Italian Sausage lunch. Now let’s get GEARED up, spending the afternoon right in the World Famous Bow River, putting all those skills you developed to work. We work right beside you, perfecting your casting, well teaching skills on how to subsurface nymph fish as well top water dry fly fishing.

Team Building.

Well now our operations are back to normal here at Shallow Water Drift Company and so are the river and streams throughout Southern Alberta it’s time to get FISHY🙌🙌 The one good thing about all the bad river conditions was it gave us the time to run down to Idaho Falls and pick up our new Drift Boat from Hyde Drift Boats. Client experience is what we’re all about. Providing the best of equipment, gear and boats on the market, only to aid you our clients that opportunity for the best Fly Fishing Trip you’ve ever experienced.

Here at Shallow Water Drift Company, it also gave us the opportunity to hold a Team Building Event with the crew. Fly Fishing Instructor: Donna McNichol. Guides: Trevor Rivers, Colton Carr and I, spent a fantastic day out here on the Bow River, Alberta, Canada running our boats through some technical skinny water just for fun and laughs. We also spent a lot of the day scoping out some best Streamer banks on the river, making sure we’re dialled in for you our clients and we found some really nice fish. Great day everyone!! Really glad we had this opportunity to hang out with each other.

Special thanks to : Matt Hyde, Hyde Drift Boats. The boat turned out amazing🙌 It rows so good, loves to play in technical skinny water with ease and it is so comfortable to fish out of. Definitely the casting areas lock you in place, allowing me or any client the stability to pick those bank shots, cast after cast with ease 😁 Wicked boat, definitely 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Front or Back!!

Front or back!! This is the question. Every morning there seems to be a ritual. Every morning when I start the day with my clients, I always ask. Okay who taking the front and who wants the back. Well every morning this is were the first of my laughs begin. As everyone believes the front of the boat is where it all happens, the front of the boat is where it all goes down and believe the angler in the back catches less fish. Every morning I’ve seen clients come up with the weirdest ideas on how they we’re going to determine who was starting of in the front. I have literally watched my clients skip stones to see who went further. I’ve seen clients literally arm wrestle for the front and of course the old flip the coin trick, with a double head coin!! Yup when that one person actually brought the double headed coin.

This piticular day started off just the opposite. Holy you won’t believe this one. The deal proposed was to see who could skip a stone the furthest and with the most skips counted to see who would take the back seat for the day!! That’s right the back seat for the full day!! And the who ever caught the most fish would be the winner and the other person would be left out of any pictures or named in any social media post. This totally caught me off guard and I just couldn’t stop laughing and I mean laughing.

Let me introduce you to Chris. Not only was Chris the Grand Puba of the stone skipping but Chris totally destroyed the myth that the angler in the back catches less fish. Way to go Chris, way to go😉😁 Your the official Grand Puba🙌🙌

Summer Vibes.

It’s that time. In 16 days millions of people will be traveling to Alberta, as it’s the beginning of the world’s best outdoor show. In 16 days the doors open up for the world to enter the front gates to the Calgary Stampede. But not only our are guests coming for Stampede, they are travelling to Alberta to experience the worlds best Fly Fishing on the world’s best Trout River, right in Calgary, Alberta on the Bow River.

It’s this time of year when here at we get to meet fantastic new clients from around the world. That’s right, it’s that time of year when the big guns roll into Calgary, Alberta all pumped up ready to challenge their abilities and put their Fly Fishing skills out on the line. Big water, big flows and a world of Adventure provided by our world class guides here at Shallow Water Drift Company.

Last season, Volker reach out to me explaining his nephew Hans and himself were coming to town and wanted to book a Lower Bow River Fly Fishing Trip. Volker mentioned although he had Fly Fished for years, this was going to be his nephew’s first time ever. I told Volker not to worry as we accommodate everyone from beginners to anglers like himself that have lots of experience and Hans is in great hands as I love to teach new anglers.

The guys arrived from 🇩🇪 were ready to challenge the river. From Nymphing to Dry Fly Fishing these two guys got to experience both styles of fly fishing. And as an owner and guide there’s nothing better than watching a newcomer standing in the river with a big smile, smashing trout on a Dry Fly!!

This couldn’t have been a better day. Shubham and I were out on the road early this morning only to encounter blue skies, gin clear mountain rivers. After a little 4x4 Shubham and I end up at one of my favourite spots on the Livingstone River. After slipping and sliding down the valley wall, there it was. This amazing pool was holding some really good size Trout.

After the end of the day we made our way back up to the roadside when Shubham looked over to me and said. There’s nothing better than beautiful Cutthroat sipping Dry Flies off the surface. Amazing, what an amazing day Geneo🔥🔥
