🌱🐶 WHY DO DOGS EAT GRASS?
Ever caught your dog happily munching on the lawn? You’re not alone! Grass-eating is very common in dogs, and it doesn’t necessarily mean something is wrong.
Dogs may eat grass because:
🌿 They enjoy the taste or texture
🧠 They’re bored, lonely, or anxious
🐾 It satisfies natural scavenging instincts
🥬 The extra fiber may support digestion
Most dogs who eat grass aren’t sick and don’t vomit afterward. Occasional grazing is usually nothing to worry about—as long as your dog stays healthy and you keep up with parasite prevention.
⚠️ Important: If your dog shows signs of stomach discomfort, repeated vomiting, diarrhea, or other changes in health, check with your veterinarian.
Sometimes, a little grass is just a little grass! 🌱💚

🐾💙 PET INSURANCE: PLAN AHEAD FOR THE UNEXPECTED!
We all want to focus on getting our pets the best care possible—not worrying about an unexpected veterinary bill. 🐶🐱
Pet insurance can help provide financial protection when your pet needs care for an accident or illness, potentially helping with costs such as diagnostics, surgery, medications, and hospitalization.
Before choosing a policy, be sure to understand:
🔹 Deductibles & reimbursement rates
🔹 Annual limits
🔹 Pre-existing condition exclusions
🔹 Waiting periods
🔹 Preventive & wellness coverage
🔹 How premiums may change as your pet ages
💡 The best time to explore pet insurance is before your pet becomes sick or injured.
Every policy is different, so read the fine print and choose coverage that fits your pet, your needs, and your budget.
❤️ Peace of mind for you.

🩺 What Happens at Your Pet’s Annual Wellness Exam? 🐾

A wellness exam is about more than vaccines! Your veterinarian takes a complete look at your pet’s health and creates a personalized plan to help them stay happy and healthy. ❤️

🔎 What’s included?
History & lifestyle: Diet, habits, behaviour, activity, and lifestyle
Measurements: Weight, body condition, temperature, heart rate & breathing
Head-to-tail exam: Eyes, ears, mouth, heart, lungs, abdomen, lymph nodes, skin, coat & joints
Preventive care: Vaccines, parasite prevention, and individualized health recommendations
Wellness testing: Bloodwork, urinalysis, or f***l testing when appropriate—especially for senior pets

✨ Regular wellness exams can help detect problems early, often before your pet shows obvious signs of illness.

🐶🐱 Prevention today can mean a healthier tomorrow!

🦔 PORCUPINE ENCOUNTER? DON'T PULL THE QUILLS!
Porcupines are fascinating Alberta wildlife—but their quills can cause a very painful problem for curious dogs.
Quills can become embedded in the face, mouth, paws, and other areas, and attempting to remove them at home can cause additional injury.
🐾 If your dog meets a porcupine:
• Keep your dog calm and prevent further rubbing or pawing.
• Don't cut, pull, or try to remove the quills yourself.
• Contact your veterinarian promptly.
Curiosity may have gotten the quills in—but veterinary care gets them out safely. 🐾

In Alberta, veterinarians recommend a standard 3-stage puppy vaccination series starting at 8 weeks old. Core vaccines include DA2PP (distemper, adenovirus, parvovirus, parainfluenza) and rabies. Your dog's lifestyle - going to daycare, dog parks, boarding kennels, or hiking in wooded areas - can also cause your vet to suggest further secondary vaccines.
The 8–12–16 Week Protocol
• 6–8 Weeks: First dose of DA2PP / DHPP.
• 10–12 Weeks: Second dose of DA2PP; first dose of Bordetella (kennel cough) or Leptospirosis depending on lifestyle.
• 14–16 Weeks: Final booster of DA2PP and initial Rabies vaccine (plus second doses of lifestyle shots like Leptospirosis).
• 1 Year / 12–16 Months: Booster shots for DA2PP and Rabies, transitioning to a 1-to-3-year schedule thereafter.

🎒 BACK TO SCHOOL… FOR PETS TOO! 🐾

The school bus may be exciting for the kids, but for our pets, the sudden change in routine can be a little stressful. 🐶🐱

When the house goes from busy to quiet, some pets may experience separation anxiety, boredom, hiding, excessive vocalizing, changes in appetite, or destructive behaviours.

💡 Help your pet adjust:
• Start the new routine before school begins
• Practice short periods alone
• Provide puzzle toys and enrichment
• Make sure they have a quiet, comfortable, safe space

A little preparation, patience, and extra love can make the transition much easier for your furry family members. ❤️

🩺 The Importance of a Senior Screen 🐾
Our senior pets are experts at hiding illness. By the time they show obvious signs, disease may already be well advanced. That's why routine Senior Wellness Screening is one of the most valuable things you can do to help your pet live a longer, healthier life.
A simple wellness screen can detect hidden health concerns before symptoms appear, allowing for earlier treatment and better outcomes.
✨ A Senior Screen may include:
🩸 Complete Blood Count (CBC)
🧪 Blood Chemistry Profile
💧 Urinalysis
🦋 Thyroid Testing (when recommended)
These tests help identify conditions such as:
❤️ Heart disease
🩺 Kidney disease
🍽️ Liver disease
🍬 Diabetes
⚖️ Thyroid disorders
🦠 Infection and inflammation
Senior wellness testing is especially important because our pets age much faster than we do. Regular monitoring helps us detect even small changes early, often before they affect your pet's quality of life.
🐶🐱 Whether your senior companion seems perfectly healthy or is managing an ongoing condition, annual (or more frequent) wellness screening provides valuable information to help keep them feeling their best.
