It's Seasonal Parasite Protection time!

Please feel free to contact us at Southwood Veterinary Hospital to renew your seasonal parasite protection or if you have any questions regarding your pets’ risk for Ticks and other parasites.

In the past, we have recommended Parasite Protection from April to October, however with recent years, Calgary is warmer earlier in the year and the temperature remains warmer into later fall. As a result of this we will recommend a longer period of treatment for ticks.

For example: Ticks like to come out when it becomes warmer outside (4 degrees Celsius for 3 or more consecutive days). They like to make their accommodation in trees/bushes and long grassy areas of parks and by rivers etc. If you like to camp; off leash walk or hike, then you may want this protection.

Also, if you are travelling with your pet into warmer areas of the country i.e. B.C., Saskatchewan, Ontario, or out of the country, your pet will need even broader parasite protection. Please contact us with your travel details to discuss.

Meet our Veterinary Technicians!
These are the superstars behind the scenes that assist with the care of your furry loved ones when they are sick.
They are the ladies doing four jobs at one time, getting covered in all the liquids and working the long hours (sometimes taking their lunch breaks at 4pm). They are the ones who must act under pressure and bring out their expertise during emergencies, dealing with angry felines or dogs that really hate being at the vet.
They are the glue that hold the clinic together and we appreciate all the hard work they do!
