It was an incredibly long but rewarding day volunteering with the trap-neuter-return program through Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society.

Three volunteers and I met at the rescue early this morning, loaded up the vehicles and headed out at 5:30 a.m. We drove to a rural property about 20 minutes from Longview where we humanely trapped 32 cats.

Along with spending the day around so many cats, I also got to hang out with ducks, chickens, roosters, goats, rabbits, donkeys, sheep, and quails.

It was an extremely productive day. After returning to the rescue we made sure all the cats had cozy bedding and plenty of food. On Monday and Tuesday they will be spayed and neutered and on Wednesday they’ll be safely returned to their home.

I’m already looking forward to the next TNR shift in June.

Calling all volunteers! We need your help to support the Corgi Races at Spruce Meadows!

If you enjoy adorable dogs, meeting new people and being part of a fun festival atmosphere, then this is a great opportunity to get involved.

The event begins at 6:00 p.m. sharp but we need volunteers to arrive at 5:00 p.m. to assist with check-in. This includes registering participants with their corgis and assigning them to their race heats (typically based on the dogs ages).

Once check-in is complete the volunteers will wait until further instructions from the event organizers.

At 6:00 p.m. everyone will enter the arena together. The dogs and their owners will walk around the perimeter before getting organized for the competition to start.
