I need to rearrange some kittens. 😂

Valencia and her babies, Yuzu and Tangelo, are ready for a new foster home.

Valencia came to us from our partner rescue in Manitoba and ended up needing an emergency C-section. Despite that rather dramatic entrance into motherhood, she has been an absolutely incredible mom. She’s healed beautifully, the kittens are now four weeks old and thriving, and this entire little family is honestly a dream.

And LOOK AT THEM.

The reason I’m looking to move them isn’t because anything is wrong. Quite the opposite. They’re doing so well that they’re ready for a little more space as Yuzu and Tangelo start becoming actual tiny cats instead of potatoes.

Meanwhile, I have another heavily pregnant mom who desperately needs somewhere safe to land, and my nursery is currently…not accepting additional reservations. 😅

Moving Valencia, Yuzu and Tangelo into foster means:
🍊 more space for these growing babies
🍊 a lovely little family for someone to foster
🍊 an open nursery space for another mom who really needs it

Basically, one foster home helps TWO families.

Furball Force provides the food, supplies and medical care. We just need someone with a safe separate space who is willing to host this ridiculously sweet trio for the next little while.

Only 4 weeks old and already opinionated 😂❤️

We are searching for a new foster home for mom Valencia and these two boys, Yuzu and Tangelo!

I love having them, but we have an urgent request and I need to make space in the nursery. Send us a message or apply directly at furballforce.org. All vet care and supplies are taken care of by the rescue!

PET P**P PROTOCOL: CHRONIC DIARRHEA 💩 | Part 2

Now we need to talk about one of my least favourite sentences:
“My pet can ONLY eat this one food.”

If one tiny food change sends an otherwise healthy dog or cat straight back into gastrointestinal chaos, I don’t want to stop at:
“Well, at least the p**p is formed.”

We may have found a way to manage the p**p. That does not necessarily mean we have built a healthy, resilient gut.

So no, I am not suggesting we immediately feed them seventeen proteins and see what happens. 😂

We go slowly. Painfully, boringly slowly.

This is where I like species-specific probiotics like Fido’s Flora or Felix’s Flora, followed by very gradual food diversity once the gut has had time to settle.

The goal is not a dog or cat who can eat an entire Costco dumpster and emerge victorious.

The goal is simply a pet whose gastrointestinal system does not declare a national emergency because a piece of turkey crossed their lips.

Next up: constipation. For the pets who have apparently decided p**ping is optional. 💩

PET P**P PROTOCOL: CHRONIC DIARRHEA 💩 | Part 1

A few weeks ago we covered our Acute Diarrhea Protocol. So what happens when you did all of that… and the p**p STILL isn’t quite right?

That brings us to chronic diarrhea.

There are three situations I see constantly in rescue and with customers:

💩 P**p is mostly formed, but there’s still mucus, straining, a little bright-red blood or irritation
💩 You fixed the diarrhea… and then it came back
💩 Everything is perfect as long as they eat ONE food and absolutely nothing else

Part 1 covers those first two: when the gut is mostly better but still angry, and when diarrhea keeps making an extremely unwanted comeback.

Hi, I’m Danya. 👋

I have a tendency to stumble into things and then get extremely invested.

I never set out to specialize in neonatal kittens and queen cats. Now I have scrubs and growth charts hanging outside three specially designed kitten rooms.

That is, in general, how I operate. I’m tenacious, heavily curious, neurodivergent, and not particularly good at leaving a question unanswered. Give me a weird case, a mystery, or something that doesn’t quite make sense and I am IN.

I’m incredibly passionate about pet nutrition and foster health. I want the animals in my care to do more than make it through. I want them growing well, eating well, feeling good, developing normally, and leaving me as healthy and prepared for their next chapter as I can possibly make them.

I love neonatal kitten and queen cat care, cat behaviour, nutrition, and increasingly, helping shy animals figure out that the world might actually be okay.

A lot of what I share here is super cute kittens doing ridiculously cute things, funny videos, and an excessive number of animal photos. Because sometimes there is nothing to investigate. Sometimes the kitten is just very small and needs to be seen. 😂

And a lot of what I share is the figuring-it-out part. The things I’m researching, the systems I’m building, the things that worked, the things that absolutely did not, and the rabbit holes I fell into because one animal did something weird and I needed to know why.

Somewhere along the way I also ended up owning a pet food store, co-founding an animal rescue, fostering a frankly unreasonable number of animals, and sharing my home with my own little herd of chaos.

So that’s what you’ll find here: fosters, nutrition, rescue, behaviour, mysteries, experiments, strong opinions backed by a lot of reading, tiny murderers, and me continually discovering new things to become excessively interested in.
