🚨 CANINE BLOAT: KNOW THE SIGNS 🚨

Bloat, also known as gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV), is a life-threatening emergency that can happen when a dog’s stomach fills with gas and may twist. Without rapid treatment, GDV can become fatal.

Signs of bloat may include:�
• A swollen, tight, or distended abdomen�
• Repeated attempts to vomit, often with little or nothing coming up�
• Restlessness, pacing, or inability to get comfortable�
• Excessive drooling�
• Rapid breathing or difficulty breathing�
• Weakness, collapse, or pale gums

Bloat can progress quickly. If you suspect your dog may be experiencing bloat, don’t wait for symptoms to improve. Seek emergency veterinary care immediately.

Knowing the signs could help save your dog’s life. ❤️🐶

September is Animal Pain Awareness Month. Pets often hide pain, so recognizing changes in their behaviour can help you know when something is wrong.

Signs of acute pain can include:�
• Whining, crying, or unusual vocalizing�
• Restlessness or inability to get comfortable�
• Panting or rapid breathing�
• Trembling or shaking�
• Hunched posture or reluctance to move�
• Guarding or reacting when touched�
• Hiding or sudden changes in behaviour�
• Loss of appetite

Sudden or severe pain, especially with vomiting, abdominal swelling, difficulty breathing, weakness, collapse, or bleeding, can be an emergency and should be assessed promptly.

Never give your pet human pain medications, including ibuprofen or acetaminophen, unless specifically directed by your veterinarian. These medications can be toxic to pets.

For chronic or ongoing pain, speak with your primary care veterinarian about establishing a long-term pain management plan.

If your pet is showing sudden or severe signs of pain, contact your veterinarian or emergency veterinary hospital.

Did you know we offer BAER hearing testing? 👂🐶

Our Reproduction Department offers BAER (Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response) testing for dogs. This quick, painless, non-invasive test is the gold standard for evaluating hearing and can identify normal hearing, unilateral deafness (one ear), or bilateral deafness (both ears).

One of the best parts? We can perform the test right in the exam room with you present, and we can test entire litters during the same appointment.

BAER testing is especially recommended for breeds predisposed to congenital hearing loss and can provide valuable information for breeders and new puppy owners alike.

Meet Murphy. 🐾

After stealing some mulch and bits of an electrical cord, Murphy found herself in our ER. Where she may have also stolen our hearts💕

We first attempted to induce vomiting, but when the material couldn't be removed, our team performed an endoscopy to safely retrieve it without surgery. Along the way, Murphy received plenty of love and cuddles from our team.

We're happy to say she recovered well and was able to head home with her family the same day!

If your pet swallows something they shouldn't or chews on an electrical cord, don't wait to seek veterinary care. Early treatment can make all the difference.
