On September 30, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.
We honour Survivors of residential schools, the children who never came home, and the families and communities who continue to carry the impacts of the residential school system.
Our work brings us together on First Nations communities throughout Alberta, where we are invited to work alongside community members, families, leaders and partners. We do not take that invitation or the relationships built through it for granted.
We come to provide veterinary care, but our responsibility extends beyond the animals in front of us. It means listening. Learning. Respecting the communities that welcome us, their knowledge and their priorities. Also recognizing that meaningful relationships are built over time, through trust and action. 🧡
Reconciliation is not the work of one day. September 30 is an important opportunity to listen, learn and reflect on the truth of Canada’s residential school system and what reconciliation asks of each of us.
Today, tomorrow and throughout the year, we remain grateful to the communities that welcome the Task Force and allow us to work alongside them, for animals.
