The Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) is a leading animal welfare organization in Alberta built on a foundation of compassion and kindness. Our values are embodied by our hard-working staff, dedicated volunteers, loving foster homes and generous supporters. Our goals are to help homeless animals in communities across Alberta, and to provide community support programs to address the root c

auses of animal overpopulation and homelessness. Our mission is to rescue and re-home animals in need and provide community support programs that help people and their pets. We have an intake shelter and veterinary hospital in Calgary, Alberta. We care for on average 500 animals at any given time and see thousands of animals through our doors each year. The organization is supported by over thousands of volunteers and foster parents across Alberta. We pride ourselves as a place where everyone is welcome — a place where individuals, families and businesses can come together to volunteer and give back in an area that is important to them. Whether that be as a caregiver in the shelter, as a foster family, a transport driver or part of our events team, there is something for every animal lover. AARCS and the people who make up this amazing organization are making a difference every day in the lives of homeless animals, and there really is no greater feeling in the world than to save a life. We acknowledge that AARCS Safe Haven and Veterinary Hospital is located on traditional territories of the Niitsítapi (Blackfoot) and the peoples of Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta, which includes the Siksiká, Piikáni, Tsúūt’ínà and Stoney Nakoda First Nations (Chiniki, Bearspaw and Wesley) and that Calgary is home to Métis Nation of Alberta District III. AARCS is a federally registered charity in Canada and a registered not-for-profit society in Alberta.

Last weekend, a dedicated team of AARCS volunteers headed to Siksika Nation to reduce some barriers to veterinary care for pets and their families. 🩺

Thanks to a generous donation of 200 vaccines from Boehringer Ingelheim and an incredible response from the community, OVER 200 dogs were vaccinated! 🎉

That means all of those incredible pups are now better protected against preventable diseases and one step closer to healthier, happier lives.

But the day didn’t stop there! 21 dogs joined us at Safe Haven, most of whom were homeless or required extra medical care. We can’t wait to help these sweet pups feel their best and start their journey toward finding their forever families. 💚 🏡

A HUGE thank you to Boehringer Ingelheim for the vaccine donation, our friends at Siksika Nation for organizing such an impactful day for the animals, and our incredible volunteers for making it all happen! 🐶

FOSTER MYTHBUSTING 🚨

“Myth: I can’t foster because I already have a pet.”

FALSE! 🐶🐱🐰

Every pet is different, and plenty of resident pets are perfectly happy to welcome a foster buddy into the home. While some animals in our care need to be the only pet or prefer to stick to their own species, many would love to have a temporary roommate to hang out with. 🏡

Just like adoption, fostering is all about finding the right fit. Our team does the matchmaking to make sure your foster is a good fit for you, your resident pets AND your foster pet. 💚

And fostering isn’t just for dogs! We have cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and other critters looking for a comfy place to crash, too. 🛋️🐾

Say hi to our Dog of the Week, True! ✨ True is a sweetie pie with a big personality, a playful spirit and an even bigger heart. This beautiful blonde Husky mix is about 2 years old, 60 lbs, and has quickly become a favourite with her caregivers. 🥹

True is happiest when she’s with her people. She loves walks, fetch, learning new things and giving kisses. 😚

She’s looking for an active family who can keep her body and her brain busy! She already knows some basic cues, but would benefit from continued training to master her manners and keep her clever brain engaged! 🐾

True would do best as the only dog in the home, with dog-savvy kids 15+. 🏡

YOU GUYS. Daphne has been waiting for nearly 500 DAYS for her forever family. 😭

She’s a four-year-old, friendly, English Spot who likes to take things at her own pace. She’s a little shy at first, but is a curious, gentle explorer who’d love a calm home with plenty of space to roam. 🏡

Daphne enjoys snuggling up in cozy spots where she can relax, recharge and munch on her favourite snacks... sound familiar? 😉

Chia was found abandoned in a box alongside three other guinea pigs last month. ☹️

Thankfully, a kind stranger found them, called AARCS, and drove over an hour to get them to safety! When Chia and the others arrived, the veterinary team gave them a checkup and discovered a surprise… Chia was pregnant! 😳

Now, she’s a proud mama to FOUR healthy babies! 🥹🐹

Thanks to their amazing foster family, Chia and her pups are safe, loved and thriving. And soon, they’ll all be ready to find families of their own. 🏡
