The Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) is a leading animal welfare organization in Alberta built on a foundation of compassion and kindness. Our values are embodied by our hard-working staff, dedicated volunteers, loving foster homes and generous supporters. Our goals are to help homeless animals in communities across Alberta, and to provide community support programs to address the root causes of animal overpopulation and homelessness. Our mission is to rescue and re-home animals in need and provide community support programs that help people and their pets. We have an intake shelter and veterinary hospital in Calgary, Alberta. We care for on average 500 animals at any given time and see thousands of animals through our doors each year. The organization is supported by over thousands of volunteers and foster parents across Alberta. We pride ourselves as a place where everyone is welcome — a place where individuals, families and businesses can come together to volunteer and give back in an area that is important to them. Whether that be as a caregiver in the shelter, as a foster family, a transport driver or part of our events team, there is something for every animal lover. AARCS and the people who make up this amazing organization are making a difference every day in the lives of homeless animals, and there really is no greater feeling in the world than to save a life. We acknowledge that AARCS Safe Haven and Veterinary Hospital is located on traditional territories of the Niitsítapi (Blackfoot) and the peoples of Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta, which includes the Siksiká, Piikáni, Tsúūt’ínà and Stoney Nakoda First Nations (Chiniki, Bearspaw and Wesley) and that Calgary is home to Métis Nation of Alberta District III. AARCS is a federally registered charity in Canada and a registered not-for-profit society in Alberta.

Who’s ready to meet our Dog of the Week? 🙋 Lucy is ten months old, 50lbs and a perfect little pup who’s fully prepared to steal your heart! 🥰

She’s a clever girl who is eager to please, quick to learn and already knows her cues for sit, lie down and shake a paw! She loves a good game of tug, chasing balls (the bringing-them-back part is still a work in progress 😉) and playing with her doggy friends. She’s respectful of the cats in her foster home, and good with dog-savvy kids 12+. 🐶

After playtime, Lucy is happy to curl up for a cozy nap. With her sweet nature, gentle manners and affectionate personality, she’s truly the best of both worlds.

🚨 URGENT: We need whelping foster homes! 🚨

As temperatures drop, we’re receiving more calls about families left out in the cold. We currently have TWO little families in our care (Wren and her nine puppies and Jordan with her two) and THREE more families waiting to come into care. 💔

We want to help every family that needs us, but we can’t do it without you! We provide the food, supplies, medical care and support, you provide the calm, loving home. 🏡

Whelping can be intimidating, but it’s a short-term commitment (eight weeks or less) that gives animals the second change they desperately need.

Can you open your home to a little family for a few weeks? 🐶 Apply to foster today at aarcs.ca/foster.

Help us turn our idea into reality! ✨

Since 2013, the Field Law Community Fund Program has supported local ideas and initiatives that strengthen communities across Alberta and the Northwest Territories.

Our idea, Learning Together: Indigenous Cultural Awareness in Animal Welfare, would help us develop cultural awareness training, guided by Indigenous partners, for AARCS staff and volunteers.

This training would strengthen relationships with Indigenous and First Nations communities, helping us provide more respectful, inclusive animal welfare services and lay the groundwork for ongoing learning, listening and relationship-building. 🥰

What are we most grateful for? You! 💚

Thank you to every teammate, volunteer, donor, adopter, community partner and supporter who has been part of our journey this year.

You’ve opened your homes to animals who needed somewhere safe to land.

You’ve shown up at Safe Haven and in the field, doing the hard, hands-on work of caring for animals in need.

You’ve donated food, supplies and funds that make essential care possible.

You’ve organized fundraisers, strengthened community connections and stood alongside us when the need was great.

You've shared our stories, spread the word and connected us with people and pets who needed a little help.

Because of you, thousands of animals have received the medical care they need, found loving homes, and been given a second chance.

Animal welfare is not something any one person or organization can do alone. It takes a village, and we are so grateful to be part of a community like this one.

Happy ! 😻 Meet Buddy and Maximus, a bonded pair of handsome gentlemen hoping to find a retirement home where they can spend their golden years together. 🥰

Buddy and Maximus are affectionate, playful and wonderfully easygoing. They’re friendly with strangers, gentle with children, and love lap cuddles, catnip and wand toys. 😺 They’re also perfectly content keeping each other company while their humans are away.
