Hello everyone! Has anyone noticed any unusual / strange behaviour in your bird since the beginning of the snow fall?

It is because your bird is aware of the change of season and instinctively, winter is a sign of struggle with finding sources of food to survive.
Even if you regulate your home's humidity and temperature levels, birds will naturally become stressed during the winter. Stress may result from slight changes in temperature, ambient sunlight, humidity, or just an instinctual reaction to the season.

Saffron was no exemption to this, here’s what we did and what you can do:

Be sure to diversify your bird's diet. Your birds will eat mostly pellets, but you should also supply him with ample protein, fats, and carbohydrates. Protein is for extra storage of calories to avoid starvation in between their meals (until they find food again) , birds in the wild anticipate limited food sources in the winter. Fat and carbohydrates are for extra body heat to fight the cold weather.

Give them abundance of food aside from above mentioned, give them fresh greens and vegetables in larger servings. This will reassure them that food isn’t running out, therefore saves them from stress. Most food you served will go to trash your bird won’t eat them all, only tiny portions of everything but it helps them psychologically and emotionally.

Encourage baths. Seeing extra amount of water aside from the water bowl they drink from, will simulate spring.

Be mindful of the temperature and humidity inside your home. Birds like to establish a comfort zone and react poorly to environmental shifts. Even if your bird is bred in captivity, they still carry some of their natural wild instincts.

We hope this will help you have a better understanding of what is and might be happening with your bird. Stay safe bird lovers!

⚠️ PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A COCKATIEL TO ADOPT FROM US.

We regret to inform you that we haven’t been breeding cockatiels for months. We rehomed our last clutch of hand raised chicks on April and no longer have any chicks with us.

We truly appreciate everyone who still inquire, but sad to say we stopped breeding.

Thank you!
