We are contacting all of our owners to inform them of some major changes to how dogs can travel into the USA after August 1, 2024.
In the past, it was very easy to cross the border with just proof of rabies vaccination. However, the USA has made significant changes to the requirements needed going forward. These new requirements may be changed without notice, in the future.
Dogs must be at least 6 months old.
All dogs are required to have an ISO-standard microchip.
All dogs' rabies vaccines must be up to date.
All dogs must have a microchip prior to their rabies vaccine.
Any rabies vaccine given prior to having a microchip administered (documentation of being microchipped before the rabies vaccine is needed) will be considered invalid and another rabies vaccine will need to be given at least 28 days prior to travel.
There are different requirements depending on whether your dog has been in a low-risk rabies country (IE. Canada) or a high-risk country within 6 months before traveling to the USA. There are different requirements if your dog's rabies vaccine was administered in the USA.
Some dogs will need to have a rabies blood titer test and/or be quarantined in the USA.
An official CFIA or CDC Health Certificate must be filled out and endorsed by the CFIA within 30 days of traveling.
Dogs will need an import permit issued by the CDC within 10 days before traveling.
Individual states in the USA may have additional requirements for dogs to enter.
We understand this is a lot of new requirements that are time-sensitive. If you are planning to travel with your dog to the USA after August 1, we urge you to start doing your research now to make sure you have met all the necessary requirements.
