Senior exams… what are they and why are they important??

1. What is a senior? We classify “senior” age for dogs after the age of 8 and 10 for cats!

2. What changes in seniors? SO MUCH! Is the diet that they are on supporting a senior lifestyle? Do we need to add in supplements or pain medications for things like arthritic changes? Are we having vision changes? Has there been hearing loss? Do we have changes in our heart or lung sounds?

3. It is also very important for seniors to have routine bloodwork. Bloodwork helps up to catch things early to be able to intervene at the beginning of diseases. Bloodwork helps us to look at diseases like kidney disease, liver disease, thyroid issues and cancers.

4. When should your senior pet be seen? Ideally we would love if our seniors would come in every 6 months for visits! It helps us to really stay on top of their help. We are happy to accommodate longer exam visits to answer all the questions you may have for your pet as they enter their golden years.

Give your old pets a big hug from us!

INTRODUCING DR. NATALIE TSAO✨

Natalie just joined us this week after completely a years internship at an emergency practice in Ontario! We have actually known her for 6 years prior to her even applying to vet school and are so proud that we were chosen to be her new home. She is so kind and gentle with our patients and has already worked on some incredible cases. Say hi next time you see her!
