FULL-TIME BARN MANAGER POSITION AVAILABLE
EquiFoX Horse Sports is a busy sport horse facility within commuting distance of Calgary and Cochrane, Alberta.
We are looking for an experienced, motivated horseperson to join our team as Barn Manager. This is an opportunity to work with horses, learn from experienced professionals, and grow within an active, supportive sport-horse program.
Our facility is home to a busy lesson, boarding, and training program. The program is owned and operated by an experienced dressage trainer, coach and judge. Jumping and cross country lessons are taught by an advanced-level event rider, and we also work with other advanced-level eventing and jump riders through monthly clinics. Our horses and riders regularly participate in eventing competitions, jumper shows, and dressage shows.
This position is ideal for someone who already has a strong foundation in horse care and management and is looking for an opportunity to expand their knowledge, develop their skills, and continue growing within the equestrian industry.
You’ll be working alongside experienced dressage and eventing professionals in an environment that values good horsemanship, continued learning, competition, and the long-term well-being and development of the horses.
THE ROLE
The Barn Manager will oversee the day-to-day care and management of the horses, helping ensure the facility runs smoothly and the horses receive excellent, consistent care.
Responsibilities include managing the daily care, health, and well-being of the horses; coordinating feed orders and monitoring feed and supply inventories; operating a tractor and safely towing horse trailers; organizing the daily management of the horses and facility; monitoring horses for changes in health, behaviour, and condition; communicating with the team regarding horse care, management, and individual needs; supporting the smooth operation of a busy lesson, boarding, and training program; and maintaining high standards of horsemanship, organization, and horse welfare.
Our horses live outdoors as part of their regular routine, so stall cleaning is minimal and generally only required when a horse needs stall rest.
AN OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP
We believe there is tremendous value in continuing to learn from experienced horse people, coaches, judges, and trainers.
Alongside the responsibilities of the position, there are opportunities to ride, lunge, and exercise suitable horses; take lessons with experienced dressage and jumping coaches, included as part of the opportunity; learn from a dressage coach and judge; develop your knowledge of eventing, jumping, dressage, and sport-horse management; gain exposure to competition preparation and participation at eventing, jumper, and dressage shows; participate in or learn from monthly clinics with an advanced-level event rider; expand your knowledge of horse training, development, and competition management; pursue equestrian coaching certification with opportunities for mentorship and professional development; and develop new skills and take on additional responsibilities as your experience grows.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The ideal candidate is an experienced horseperson who takes pride in their work, enjoys being part of a busy team, and is eager to continue learning.
You should be confident and knowledgeable in horse handling and daily horse care; reliable, organized, and self-motivated; comfortable working independently and managing multiple responsibilities; able to recognize changes in a horse’s health, behaviour, and well-being; comfortable working around clients, boarders, coaches, and trainers; interested in learning from experienced dressage and eventing professionals; interested in competition preparation and sport-horse development; and a certified equestrian coach or interested in pursuing recognized coaching certification.
REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s licence and reliable personal transportation, and have previous experience handling and caring for horses. Experience working in a busy barn, lesson program, boarding facility, or training environment is an asset. The successful candidate must be able to obtain a satisfactory criminal record check and be willing to pursue recognized coaching certification if not already certified.
