We are thrilled to share some amazing news - Laura has achieved her Veterinary Technician Specialty in Ophthalmology (VTS).

What are the skills required to be a VTS in ophthalmology?

As a VTS in ophthalmology, there are certain skills that need to be mastered. This includes basic ophthalmic diagnostics such as Schirmer tear test for tear assessment, tonometry for intraocular pressure measurement, and fluorescein stain test for corneal and tear film health. Advanced ophthalmic examinations using slit lamp biomicroscopy are also learned and mastered.

Additionally, advanced skills such as an electroretinogram (ERG), ocular ultrasound, nasolacrimal duct flushes, retinoscopy, esthesiometry, and ocular nerve blocks are all mastered. This allows for improved patient care and management with our ophthalmologists.

All that hard work has paid off — you’ve absolutely earned this, Laura!

Happy Receptionist Week!

A big thank you to Breanne, Dariel, and Mikaela for all the work they do to keep the clinic running. They are more than just Receptionists, they are the first line of communication with our wonderful clients and a true advocate for all the patients as they walk through our doors. Our clinic would not be the same with all their hard work and dedication.

Thank you, ladies! ❤️

Spring has sprung! This serves as a gentle reminder that with the return of bushes after winter, there's an increased risk of corneal injuries. This includes corneal laceration and foreign bodies.

Congratulations to Amy, one of our technicians, for obtaining her Veterinary Technician Specialty in Ophthalmology (VTS).

What does VTS mean, and how is it achieved?

There are currently 16 different specialty academies available for veterinary technicians to obtain a certificate, with ophthalmology being one of the most recent additions. These academies mirror veterinarian specialty colleges and are overseen by the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA). Before application, VTS candidates are required to have worked a minimum of 6000 hours directly under a board-certified veterinary specialist within that field. Once the technician completes a vigorous application process, consisting of numerous case logs, case reports, and other requirements, they then must pass a final examination. This process takes a minimum of 2 years to complete.

We are proud of your achievement, Amy! Your dedication to expanding your knowledge has truly paid off, and this achievement reflects your hard work and commitment to advancing your career. Keep striving for greatness!
