Today was an incredible Rescue day. ❤️
A breeder called this morning about her two-day-old puppy, Legend, who was losing weight. She checked his mouth and discovered a cleft palate. I invited her to come over, and we spent about an hour going over feeding, temperatures, amounts, and what to watch for. She left with feeding tubes, step-by-step instructions, and hands-on practice.
Legend is home, settled in, and doing well. His breeder sent me this:
“Okay, we’re home and all set up. We did the first feeding—not too much, but it went well. He passed a little stool, too, so we know he’s digesting.
Can’t thank you enough for all your help. You’re officially his guardian angel! We’ll keep you posted.”
After seven years and well over 200 cleft palate puppies, I know how demanding around-the-clock tube-feeding can be. I’m not able to take on that level of care right now, but I can share what I’ve learned. We’re now offering one-on-one support for breeders and families, including feeding education and, when available, incubator loans. If a puppy needs more help as they grow, we can talk about whether our Rescue may be able to help.
