Every once in awhile the world needs a TED talk & right now in the world of horses I’m really seeing the opposite of what I like to see..
I consign quite a few a year I have a regular day job I love & my own horses I really love but I consign 25-50 a year I’d say depending where I’m at in life & here is my two cents.
Selling:
When a horse comes up for sale by the seller the information given isn’t the only information on the horse it’s whole life but it’s the information in the now it’s where the horse is at, whose riding it, what it’s like & how it’s going… I had this struggle earlier this year with a buyer she says well when he was started did he buck? Well he’s 7 now & he was started at 4 and the last 45 days he hasn’t bucked with me or the owner prior so? If you want to hold up my life and my sellers to find out if he bucked his first saddling which horses buck folks they are horses? Find a weanling raise it & maybe saddle it for yourself. A lot of the time I’m not sure if it was born at 6:07 am Sunday May 17th of 2017 so if you want that info search for a horse with someone who has it.. WHICH IS GENERALLY WRITTEN IN THE AD YOUR FAILING TO READ & MESSAGING QUESTIONS YOU CAN FIND ANSWERS FOR IN THE AD. When you took a social studies test in school & you asked a question on a test but it’s clearly written if you could read fine did your teacher give you the answer or read what you asked was already written NO they said it’s on the test keep going or you can find it in the test I’m sorry… I work for a school I know how this common stuff goes 😉
If your not finding your simple needs met in the ad it’s probably not the horse for you move on.
Buying:
When I watch you ride a horse at my place comment the saddle fits not well that you brought with to try said horse you take it home 12 hours later ride it twice in one day and get dumped is this the horses fault or mine? Neither if sense is common. If you buy a horse and it’s riding in a snaffle and you put a ported shank in get heavy handed the first ride and it rears but we said it didn’t we’re not lying… that’s like putting gas in my diesel tank then telling the dealership well ya failed to mention it was a diesel but it was written all over the windshield…. Come on people. Vet checks are another one on the buying end… I absolutely LOVE when non veterinarians vet horses for me… I sent this lady a nice little quarter horse a few months ago checked all her boxes had a previous injury that was disclosed in the ad she waited on my list to find a horse her reply “she short tracks on the right weak hind end” oh really? Lately I’ve been vetting any open issue with my performance vet prior to sale saves alot of questions during sale and makes things go smoother… she was a bit shocked to see the vet written letter saying the horse healed fabulous no lameness on a regular exam & would suit the needs she would like met trail riding, dummy roping & flat shows… if your not a vet don’t pretend to be one it’s not that hard to book in with one & for the thousandth time… a ppe is to find what YOU can deal with not a perfectly unblemished unicorn folks.
We are not Walmart - there is no returns & I’ll never do one again.
Our time is valuable - don’t take up space asking the same questions over again like your drivers exam thinking I’ll give a different answer.
Message me the right gender - for the love of Jesus name if I list one more mare and someone says can I get the price on your gelding ITS IN THE AD the gender & the price!
Stop going public - if you were wronged talk to the person slander is a horrendous crime and when you haven’t PPE’d or done your homework court doesn’t care that fluffy set back at your trailer. Be an adult & talk to someone this pack mentality to of needing a friend to bring a horse back or bring an issue to the for front needs to stop as well we’re not in the school yard taking votes on who gets the swings that day we’re adults.
Let’s go into winter lighter & brighter then what social media is bringing to the table lately. Get over ourselves take accountability for our part in certain situations & get a registered veterinarian to look at horses not self diagnose them.
