Veterinarians are warning pet owners in parts of eastern Quebec to get their cats vaccinated amid a serious feline disease outbreak.
In Rivière-du-Loup, more than 20 cats have died in the span of two weeks due to the spread of feline panleukopenia.
One local veterinary hospital described the situation as "extremely worrying."
In a statement last week, the Hôpital Vétérinaire de Rivière-du-Loup said that "the scale of this outbreak is exceptional" and called for "the utmost vigilance."
The highly contagious disease can even affect cats who never go outdoors.
"You can just pet an animal, get viruses on your hand and, if you don't wash it properly, get it inside your house and while petting your cat, give it the virus," said veterinarian Dr. Valérie Bissonnette, president of Quebec’s veterinarian association.
The disease causes severe inflammation of a cat’s digestive system and impacts its immune system.
"There are high mortality rates, traditionally we talk about 90 per cent of the animals that are unvaccinated or very young will die from the disease," Bissonnette said
Symptoms to watch out for include unusual tiredness, loss of appetite, weakness, diarrhea and vomiting with blood and fever.

A balcony might seem like a safe place for your cat to get some fresh air, but one misstep can have devastating consequences. ❤️‍🩹

At Toronto Animal Services, we’ve recently seen cats come into our care with serious and, sadly, sometimes fatal injuries after falling from balconies.

It’s an important reminder that even cats who seem comfortable on balconies can fall. A sudden noise, movement, or distraction can quickly put them in danger!

Help keep your cat safe by keeping them off balconies and keeping balcony doors and unscreened windows closed when your cat is nearby. Keep litter boxes indoors too, so your cat doesn’t have a reason to venture onto the balcony.

Remember: the safest balcony for your cat is one they can’t access.

Meet Vinny — our little prince. 👑❤️

Vinny is 7 years old and a sweet, affectionate little guy who loves being close to his humans. He loves to “chat,” be held, get brushed, have his belly scratched, and still has plenty of playful moments.

His favourite ritual is morning coffee snuggles — breakfast first, then a cuddle while you have your coffee. At night, he’ll often sneak in for another snuggle before heading off to sleep in his own bed.

Vinny can be reactive, so his ideal home would be adult-only with no other pets, where he can be the one and only little prince. 👑 He is fine with children visiting, but a home without kids living there would be best for him.

Vinny is a quirky, loving little guy with lots of personality who really just wants to be close to his people and, of course, appropriately spoiled. ❤️

Hello friends and followers:

If you’re looking for the PERFECT adult cat companion, look no further!

Lucie was surrendered to us when her family had to move and their new accommodations would not accept cats.🤦🏻‍♀️ (that policy HAS to change… but, here we are…).

She is an almost 2 year-old sweet Tortie.

Lucie is calm, quiet, and settled in very quickly with her foster mom and is now ready for her new forever home.

She is up-to-date on vaccinations, sterilized, and microchipped.

She has not been tested with other cats or dogs.
Respectful supervised children (at least to start) over the age of six or seven years old should be perfectly fine.

Like most Torties, she has a bit of ‘Tortitude’.. she does NOT like her carrier but, other than that, she’s an angel.

Her adoption fee is $250.

All of our cats are to remain strictly indoors and there will be a mandatory home visit for her safety.

If you would like to meet Lucie, please contact me and I will arrange a visit.

She is currently in Saint Henri.

I know I did a similar post back in July… Just posting again and being a bit more specific this time.

Is there anybody, with experience, who will host one cat in THEIR house for two weeks WHO HAS NO OTHER PETS.

The person would prefer their cat to be alone as she does not do well with other kits.

If you’re that person she will, of course, want to interview you.

Please do not suggest home visits. This is not what the person wants.
