🐕Thursday Training Tip #43 : Train one new skill at a time

When teaching your dog something new, remember that less is often more! Trying to teach multiple new skills at once can leave your dog confused, frustrated, or overwhelmed.

Instead, focus on one skill at a time and give your dog the opportunity to truly understand what you’re asking before adding something new.

Keep it simple! Break new behaviours into small, achievable steps.
Build consistency! Practice the same skill in short, positive sessions until your dog starts to understand.
Celebrate the little wins! Reward progress, even if it’s not perfect yet.
Gradually add challenges! Once your dog understands a skill, begin introducing distractions, new environments, or increased difficulty.

Remember, you can absolutely practice multiple known skills in one session, but when introducing something new, give your dog the time and attention to learn it properly!

🐕Thursday Training Tip #42 : Don’t poison your recall cue

Your dog’s recall cue (like “come” or “here”) should be one of the most positive and rewarding things they hear!

A common mistake owners make is unintentionally teaching their dog that coming when called means something they don’t enjoy.

❌ Ways you might be poisoning your recall:
-Only calling your dog when it’s time to leave the park or go inside.
-Calling them over for something unpleasant, like a bath or nail trim.
-Scolding them when they finally come back after taking too long.
-Repeating “come, come, COME!” when they aren’t responding.

✅ How to build a reliable recall:
-Reward your dog generously when they come to you!
-Practice recall during fun activities, not just when it’s time to leave.
-Call your dog, reward them, and release them to go play again.
-Never punish your dog for coming to you, even if they took their sweet time.
-If you’re unsure they’ll respond, use a long line to prevent them from practicing ignoring the cue.

A reliable recall isn’t built by demanding your dog come back. It’s built by teaching them that coming back to you is one of the best choices they can make!🐶💙

Basic Obedience Class Graduation Night!🎓

A big congratulations to our newest Basic Obedience graduates!💙🐶

Over the past 5 weeks, these dogs and their owners have worked hard on building a strong foundation of obedience skills! From engagement and impulse control to sit, down, stay, place, recall, and loose leash walking, they’ve covered a lot!

A huge thank you to all our dedicated owners for showing up each week, putting in the work, and being willing to learn alongside their dogs! Remember, training doesn’t stop at graduation! Keep practicing, stay consistent, and continue building on everything you’ve learned🐾

Puppy Class Graduation Night!🎓

A big congratulations to our newest Puppy Class graduates!🐶💙

Over the past 5 weeks, these puppies and their owners have worked hard on building important foundations, from basic commands and engagement to proper play, handling, confidence building, and working through fear stages!

It’s been so much fun watching each puppy grow, learn, and gain confidence week after week! 🥰

Congratulations Henry, Olive, Phoenix, and Finn (who we missed tonight!)

Remember, graduation isn’t the end of training, it’s just the beginning!🐾
