✨ Rosettes & Real Talk ✨
Harvey was our pick puppy. A stunning boy. The kind you look at and quietly think, this one could be special.
And he is.
🏵 Best Baby Puppy in Group
🏵 Multiple Best Puppy in Group
🏵 Multiple Group Placements
🏵 Grand Champion Bronze
Multiple times in the Top 10 once as top 10 once as top 6 with limited showing
He did everything you hope a special puppy will do. The ribbons are beautiful. They validate the eye, the work, the breeding decisions. He lives an incredible life — deeply loved and cherished — which is always the true goal.
But that’s only half the story.
People thought I was crazy as a newbie breeder to place my first pick puppy with full rights.
But here’s what I’ve learned…
Selling my first pick puppy didn’t weaken my program.
It strengthened my village.
Harvey inspired his owner, Sarah, and her daughter to step into the ring. Now they’re showing. Learning. Growing. Breeding Miniature Long-Haired Dachshunds.
In a sport we constantly say is “dying,” that’s two new exhibitors. Possibly a third if Sarah’s son joins the handling brigade.
I didn’t lose a pick puppy.
I gained committed people.
I gained friendships.
I gained new members in my show village.
There was a time when breeders sold truly good dogs to eager newcomers — not just pets, not just tightly controlled arrangements — but real opportunities paired with mentorship.
If we’re worried about the future of our sport, we have to ask ourselves:
How many capable, passionate people never get the chance because no one will trust them with something truly good?
How many future breeders, handlers, and preservationists are standing at the edge, waiting for someone to believe in them?
Maybe it feels safer to hold onto everything.
But maybe the old-fashioned way — placing your best puppy with someone who genuinely wants to learn and mentoring them well — is exactly how we keep this whole thing alive.
Sometimes the biggest win isn’t the ribbon.
Sometimes it’s the ripple effect. 🩷
