Wendal's Way is an all-volunteer, registered charity operating in NS, NB, and PEI dedicated to providing a haven for dachshunds and dachshund mixes in need, with a special affinity for high medical needs dogs, seniors, and those with behavioural issues.

This week on 𝐖𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐀𝐋'𝐒 𝐖𝐄𝐃𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐃𝐀𝐘𝐒...

𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 $𝟱 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀

Our followers are the best and so generous in answering our call for help with our recent influx of dogs. But we're still all full up and the need for help hasn't gone away: with eight dogs in care it doesn't take long for vet needs and medicine, special foods, and other necessities to burn through our available funds. Wen's Way exists solely on donations, and while we understand that times are tough right now, the dogs still need our help. So this time, we have an easy ask...𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 $𝟓 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝐝𝐨𝐠𝐬?

Even if only half of all our followers donated just $5, it would add over $3,000 to our dwindling bank account. Every penny we raise goes directly to the dogs in our care and $3,000 would go a very long way to support our pups. 𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗜𝗦 𝗢𝗦𝗖𝗔𝗥 𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗪𝗔𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗢 𝗕𝗘 𝗔𝗗𝗢𝗣𝗧𝗘𝗗⁉️🌭🧐

We honestly don’t understand why Oscar is still waiting for his forever family. Seriously…look at that face. 🩵

Oscar is a young-at-heart, 10 year old black & tan dachshund who has spent the last 5 months in foster care getting healthier, slimming down, and enjoying all the important things in life...walks, games of 'chase me', car rides, veggie treats… and being someone’s constant little shadow.

He is funny, loyal, affectionate and VERY food motivated 🌭. He’ll happily eat carrots🥕, broccoli 🥦, cauliflower, and kale🥬… although he would like you to know that if you leave an artichoke dip or sausage unattended, that is entirely your fault. 😂

Oscar isn’t the dog who is going to charm every stranger at the dog park. He's wary of strangers, crowds, and people entering his home. He needs time to trust and a family who understands that relationships aren’t built overnight. But once you’re in Oscar’s inner circle, you’re IN! You’ll get the loyal little shadow, the silly dachshund games, the car ride buddy, the companion who wants to be wherever you are…and the kind of love that comes from a dog who knows he has found his people.

Oscar needs someone who is home most of the time. Someone who enjoys a quieter lifestyle. Someone with a fenced yard, a love of dachshunds, and the patience to let a relationship develop at Oscar’s pace.

Oscar does have separation anxiety, but thankfully, he LOVES car rides, so he’s perfectly happy to be your little copilot. 🚙

His ideal home is:
* Calm and low-traffic
* Someone home full-time
* Fenced yard or leash walks only
* Daily walks and exercise
* No children
* No cats or birds
* No apartments
* Best as an only dog, or with one calm, respectful dog
* A commitment to keeping him on his healthy, weight-controlled diet

Oscar is neutered, microchipped, up to date on his vaccinations💉 and flea/tick prevention, and has a clean bill of health from his vet🧑🏻‍⚕️.

All of us at Wendal's Way want to say a huge THANK YOU to all of you...our supporters. With EIGHT dogs in care, our little rescue has been stretched to the limits. But you all came through for us in spades...our May online auction (our most successful yet!), our 2nd anniversary DoxAgility event (SO much fun!), our recent 'ask' for donations, all the new foster applications, all our new followers, and so much interest in our dogs. It means the world to us, but far more importantly, it helps us to continue to help the dachshunds who need it.

Here at Wendal's Way, we have a special place in our hearts for senior dogs as well as dogs with high medical needs. And we have some of those in our care right now - seniors Jessie, Charlie, Rosie (our sanctuary girls); Oscar the 1st who is patiently waiting to find his new family; most recently Oscar 2 or Oscar tutu as he is affectionately called; Peaches & Blossom the adorable young special needs girls who are hearing & vision impaired; and the sweet Frank who, due to IVDD, is paralyzed in the hind end (but has taken to using a walker like a pro!).

OSCAR 2 - EVALUATION HOLD

Not only is it raining dachshunds at WWDR, but it's especially raining Oscars! We have not one, but two in our care. Definitely a popular name for wieners😉. (don't forget the sweet original Oscar is still looking for his forever home! https://wenswaydoxrescue.com/oscar-available-for-adoption/).

Oscar 2 is a handsome 12 year old red dapple short haired gentleman. He's still settling in with his foster family and once we've had a chance to get to know him a bit better, we'll update everyone. Gotta love ALL the Oscars! 🌭💜🌭

🌼🍑PEACHES & BLOSSOM - AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION 🍑🌼

We're looking for a special forever home for two of the sweetest dogs to ever have come into our care. Peaches and Blossom are what is known as double dapples, the result of breeding two dapple dachshunds together. Not a good idea...these two 6 year old sisters are both blind, and Blossom is also deaf. However, don't tell them they have any kind of a disability! Because this is all they've ever known, they've grown up thinking this is how everyone is, thank you very much. And to watch them you'd never think there was a thing wrong with them, they have adapted brilliantly.

PEACHES is a blind, super silly little angel. She's incredibly sweet & snuggly, she loves everyone, even other dogs (although she is still learning how to be appropriately social with dogs). As you can see from the video she loves wrestling with her sister. Like any other typical dachshund, she has covering herself with blankets to make a nest down to a fine art.

BLOSSOM is both blind and deaf. Like her sister, she's a super snuggler and wants to be with her person all the time. She does take a bit of time to warm up to new people (fair enough!). But sit with her quietly to let her smell you, hold out your hand so she knows you're there, give her a chance to figure you out, and she'll be crawling all over you in no time. She loves her sister just as much as her sister loves her. However she is not fond of other animals.

There is absolutely no doubt these two are extremely bonded. They would both do best in a home where they can be the focus of your attention and get all the cuddles. Older, respectful kids (10+ yrs) would be ok. They do well in the car on long drives, walk well on leashes, and have been doing well with their halos navigating their foster home.

𝐖𝐞'𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐎𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒...𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩?

As we've told you, Wen's Way has welcomed 6 new dogs into our care in the last two weeks and now we're bursting at the seams! There are always dogs waiting to come in, and we are in desperate need of foster homes to welcome them, particularly cat and/or pet free ones. Bonus points if you have experience with the dachshund breed. If you are able to care for a dog, Wendal's Way will take care of the cost.

💜 FRANK (EVALUATION HOLD) 💜

Meet FRANK, an adorable 7 yr old red dachshund who came into our care this past week. He originally had IVDD surgery 3 yrs ago, had a great recovery, and was able to walk again. He recently had another episode of IVDD and after being assessed by our vet, unfortunately it has been determined his back-end paralysis is likely permanent this time. But the good news is this doesn't hold Frank back from enjoying life to the fullest. He is the sweetest, gentlest little soul, and we look forward to watching his journey to find his forever home.

👏🏻 THANK YOU Pet Valu 👏🏻

Since the day we started our rescue 2 years ago this month (happy birthday to us!), Pet Valu Windsor has been incredibly supportive. Most recently they generously donated not only food, but also a large assortment of treats AND toys. This is a very big help to us right now since our little rescue is growing...we had 4 new dogs come into our care just this past week, and another 2 'surprises' will be joining us in the next week. That will be TEN dogs in care, so food and other necessities are very welcome. PetValu Windsor you're the best!

It's been raining dachshunds this week! Please welcome bonded sisters PEACHES & BLOSSOM, FRANK, and OSCAR 2. We'll be introducing them over the next few days, but for now we need your help. With this sudden 'population growth', comes bigger vet bills. Every donation, every share, every single dollar donated will make a difference to help them all get the vet care they'll require.
