This is Luna. She is not comfortable with strangers in her space (fair), if not handled correctly this can turn into fear aggression.
Luna’s mom and I had to approach this situation delicately to make sure we had a successful introduction. Every canine has different requirements. This meant several decompression sessions, with her human present. This allowed Luna the time and space to gain confidence and to realize, I am not a threat.
Thankfully, with lots of patience, love and of course treats, Luna feels safe allowing me into her world.
I’ve had to use this approach several times and it is always so rewarding when it’s successful. Being the owner of a selective dog who also struggles with reactivity, I understand the importance of advocating for your pet and avoiding set backs. It is such a relief finding someone you can trust.
