Our Clinic is equipped for full surgical, medical, dental, and nutritional care. We are proud to be able to utilize our in-house diagnostic laboratory, EKG, and X-ray services in caring for our patients. We also use modern anesthetic equipment

and monitoring devices. In addition, our patients benefit from our clinic policy which states that “pain control is not an option”. In addition, we stock a wide variety of maintenance foods and prescription foods for our patients with special dietary needs.

Weird Stuff Wednesday

Have you ever seen a bot fly?

Sweet little Reggie came in for a lump check, intake exam and vaccines… and apparently decided to bring a plus-one to his appointment.

SURPRISE! Our team discovered a bot fly larva hanging out where absolutely no one invited it.

Bot fly larvae can develop under the skin, often causing a lump or swelling and sometimes a small opening where the larva breathes. They’re not super common around here, but our team has seen a few over the years—which is why those weird little lumps are always worth having checked out.

The good news? Reggie is feeling MUCH better and is settling in wonderfully with his friends at Brandon Humane Society .

Reggie, buddy… next time, please leave the extra passengers at home.

VERY important to keep in mind👇👇

🔥 Avoid Strenuous Activity: Don't exercise your pet in hot weather (especially the short-snouted breeds as they are prone to overheating!). Look out for excessive panting, lethargy, or drooling. If you notice these signs, move your pet to a cooler area right away.

🌊 Stay Hydrated & Shaded: Always carry a portable water bowl to keep your pets refreshed during outings and make sure there’s a shaded spot for your pets to escape the sun’s intense rays.

🚗 Never Leave Pets in Cars: Even for a short time and even with AC on, cars can heat up dangerously fast. Leave your best bud in a safe, cool spot to avoid the risk!

🐾 Protect Those Paws: If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws! Choose grassy paths to avoid pavements that could burn your pet’s feet, or consider using paw-safe booties.

Brandon Hills Veterinary Clinic will be closed Monday, August 3rd in observance of Terry Fox Day.

Born right here in Manitoba, Terry Fox set out to do something extraordinary for a cause bigger than himself. His Marathon of Hope captured the heart of an entire country and continues to make a difference in the fight against cancer decades later.

A hometown kid with a big idea, a bigger heart, and a determination to do something great for a great cause.

That’s a legacy worth taking a day to remember.

We’ll be back Tuesday, August 4th, ready to care for your favourite creatures.

Because special friends deserve special care and special people deserve observance of their legacy!
