Ziggy recently had a routine vet visit where fluid was emptied from his stomach. The fluid was a result of the growths in his body. After his vet visit he experienced difficulty passing stools and was weaker than usual so all efforts were made to alleviate his constipation and discomfort and restore his energy levels but he was very sluggish and lost his appetite soon after. I began giving him green smoothies again. His appetite and energy levels were inconsistent for about a year as he struggled to live with his illness. On Monday July 14th he woke up alert but weak and by 2:30pm after he struggled to hold his head up I decided to rush him to the vet. On the drive to the vet he opened his mouth and took one long final gasp of breath, stuck out his tongue and closed his eyes. I tried doing mini chest compressions on the drive and when he arrived at the vet they found a very faint heartbeat but because he wasn't breathing for an hour on the drive there the vet determined that he was basically brain dead. He had already been very spaced out and weak for a couple of weeks leading up to this point and although I tried my best to feed him all of his favourite foods and spend as much time as I could helping him recover I knew he was tired of trying. The very difficult but necessary decision was made to humanely euthanize Ziggy and at 6pm he passed away.
I'm so sorry that this mysterious illness that developed slowly cut his life short but I am forever grateful that I was able to care for him 24/7 when he needed me the most. The last year of his life was difficult and painful but also gave me the opportunity to care for him and shower him with love. I got to prepare the freshest most amazing foods for him, hand feed him, bathe him, pamper him and do all that was possible to give him a peaceful last year of life. I'm so sorry that he went so soon but his suffering is over now.
Love you forever Ziggy. β€οΈ π¦π
