☀️🐾 𝐇𝐎𝐓 𝐏𝐀𝐖𝐒 𝐀𝐋𝐄𝐑𝐓!

As temperatures rise, pavement, asphalt, and sidewalks can become dangerously hot for your dog's paws.

A simple way to test the ground is the 𝟳-𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲:
Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 𝟳 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘀. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your dog's paws!
Hot surfaces can cause painful burns, blisters, and long-term damage to paw pads.

🦮🚶 Tips for safe summer walks:
✅ Walk during the cooler morning or evening hours
✅ Stick to grass or shaded trails when possible
✅ Bring water for both you and your pet
✅ Consider protective booties for sensitive paws
✅ Watch for signs of discomfort, such as limping or frequently lifting paws

🐾 𝗠𝗨𝗭𝗭𝗟𝗘𝗦 - 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆'𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 ...

When you see a dog wearing a muzzle, it's easy to make assumptions—but the truth is, muzzles are often used by responsible pet owners who are putting safety first!

Muzzles can be an excellent training and management tool for:
✅ Dogs learning to be comfortable around new people or animals
✅ Dogs who may eat unsafe items while on walks
✅ Dogs who may get training for overstimulated behaviours
✅ Veterinary visits and grooming appointments, or desensitization for these visits
✅ Building confidence in stressful situations

A muzzle does **NOT** automatically mean a dog is aggressive. Many dogs wear muzzles as a precaution while training, much like a seatbelt is worn for safety.

🐶 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗠𝘂𝘇𝘇𝗹𝗲
Not all muzzles are created equal! The best muzzle depends on what you need it for.

✔️ Basket Muzzles – Ideal for training, walks, and longer wear. They allow dogs to pant, drink water, and accept treats while remaining safe.

✔️ Soft/Fabric Muzzles – Intended for very short-term use only, such as certain veterinary or grooming procedures. These should never be used for extended periods as they restrict panting.

🎯 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹?
Before purchasing a muzzle, consider:
• Is it for training and behaviour modification?
• Veterinary or grooming visits?
• Preventing scavenging on walks?
• Introducing your dog to new environments safely?

A properly fitted basket muzzle should allow your dog to pant, drink, and accept treats comfortably. Fabric muzzles should fit securely without being overly tight or allowing the dog to open its mouth and are intended for short-term use only, as they restrict panting and access to water. 🐾

Muzzle training isn't about punishment—it's about creating safe, positive experiences for both pets and people. ❤️ It's important when training your pet with a muzzle to promote positive vs negative experiences!

🔎 Spot a Tick? Here's what to do next!
Tick's aren't just annoying little bugs, they can transmit harmful diseases to you and your pets! If you spot a tick, here's what to do!

✅ 𝟏. 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐢𝐜𝐤
If you don't have a hand "Tick Twister" tool, find tweezers can also help! Grab the tick as close to the skin as possible. Pull the tick out with steady pressure. You want to ensure you've removed the tick's head from burrowing in the skin.

*If the Tick has not latched, you can remove them using clear tape, microfibre clothes or flea comb. Be careful not to lose it!

✅ 𝟐. 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝
With a gentle soap or antiseptic cleaner, cleanse the wound or bite spot. Try to avoid alcohol or other harsh cleaners. Ensure to also wash your hands!

✅ 𝟑. 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐏𝐞𝐭
It's important to keep a close eye on your pet for the next 6-8 weeks after a tick bite. Monitoring not only the wound but for any health changes. Many diseases that are transmitted by ticks may not show symptoms until months later! Call your vet and ask to schedule an updated 4Dx Snap test!
*Alternatively you can keep the Tick and ask to have it sent to a lab for disease testing, costs vary.

✅ 𝟒. 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
The best prevention practice is to keep your pet on their recommended flea and tick prevention medication year-round. It is also important to test for tick borne disease once yearly as these tests also help detect heart-worm transmitted by mosquitos!

🐾 Why Microchipping Your Pet Matters! 🐾

Collars and tags are important — but they can fall off or become unreadable. A microchip provides your pet with a permanent form of identification that greatly increases the chances of being reunited if they ever become lost.

FAQ:
🐾 Microchips are about the size of a grain of rice, implanted with a puncture needle.

🐾 Shelters and veterinary clinics can scan the chip identifying a unique code. This allows them to contact the microchip company and get in contact with the owner!

🐾 Although they are NOT GPS devices, pets with microchips are far more likely to make it back home safely.

🐾 Microchipping your pet is the number one way to confirm ownership! You can also add addition contacts, emergency contacts and medical alerts to your pets microchip file!

🐾 The procedure is quick and similar to a routine vaccine, although the needle is a little larger, it can cause some mild bruising or tenderness a few days after implantation. Much like after you receive a flu shot!

🐾 Although not necessary in all cases, most vets recommend microchipping under sedative procedures to ensure proper placement, making it more comfortable.

A microchip only works if your contact information stays up to date! Be sure to update your phone number and address if they ever change.

Whether your pet is an indoor couch potato 🐱 or an adventurous explorer 🐶, accidents happen — and microchipping adds an extra layer of protection for your furry family member.
