One Year Apart. A Lifetime of Memories. 🩷✨
Some moments in life mean so much more than the placings, the ribbons, or the times on the clock. Sometimes, the greatest victories are the ones that quietly remind you just how lucky you are to have a horse like we do in your life.
The highlight of our Thanksgiving weekend wasn’t our own runs or accomplishments. It was watching Grace and Sloane dazzle in PINK once again at The Switch Up Futurity, Derby & Open, alongside our trusted senior gentleman, Finn (Hesa Dair), now 26 years young.
Together, Sloane and Finn brought home:
🎀 7th in the 3D — P*e Wee Barrels
🎀 1st in the 1D — P*e Wee Poles
But what those placings don’t tell you is the story behind the little girl holding the reins, and the incredible horse who has given her the confidence to hold them.
For years, Finn was one of our main Open horses. A finished double-ender, a seasoned barrel horse, a competitor, and a horse who gave his whole heart every time we asked him to go to work. When he retired from competition in 2023, we knew he had already given us more than we could ever repay.
Little did we know, his most important job was still waiting for him.
These days, that once-competitive athlete carries our little girl.
The same horse who once knew the pressure of competition, the speed of a barrel run, and the snap of a coil tightening on a steer and the excitement of an arena full of people now understands something entirely different. He knows when to slow down, when to be patient, and when the tiny hands holding his reins need him most.
He has traded chasing the clock for building a little girl’s dreams, and confidence.
And somehow, watching him do that means more than anything he ever accomplished for us.
There is something incredibly emotional about watching a horse who helped shape your own journey turn around and become such an important part of your child’s.
The horse who once carried our dreams is now carrying hers.
Finn has given Sloane every ounce of confidence, patience, security, and safety we could ever ask for. He has taught her to be brave, to trust, to laugh, to try again, and most importantly, to love this sport for all the right reasons.
At 26 years young, he owes us absolutely nothing. Yet he continues to give us everything.
One year apart, and seeing how much this little gal has grown, how her confidence has blossomed, and how these precious memories continue to unfold is something we’ll never take for granted.
Because one day, the ribbons will be tucked away, the photographs will be old, and the little girl in pink won’t be so little anymore.
But she’ll always remember the horse who made her feel like she could do anything.
And we’ll always remember the horse who loved our little girl enough to let her believe it.
Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours.
Here’s to the old horses, the little girls with big dreams, and the once-in-a-lifetime kind of love that makes this life with horses so incredibly special.
We love you, Finn. More than you’ll ever know.
26 & 6 years young 🩷✨
Excuse us, we’ll just be over here crying.
