It’s hard to believe that a whole year has passed. There are some people who come into your life and leave a mark that can never be erased. Kim was one of those people.
Today, in her memory, I would like everyone to know how important Kim was to us — especially those who have an Ekho or Dunrovin pup.
Without Kim, there would be no Ekho Labradors.
Let’s share how it all started…
2007 was the year Kim came into our lives. We had recently moved to the small town of Borden, SK. Three months later, Bryce, Kim, and their three children became our neighbours.
Both our families had children attending Borden School, and we often shared rides for after-school activities. Kim and I quickly became friends.
Then came the Labradors!!
Stuck for what to do for Beckie’s 12th birthday, and with Kim having an adorable litter of black Labrador puppies, well… I was caught in the Labrador spell and decided on a pup for Beckie.
Little did I know that day, a seed had been planted, and we were destined to join the purebred dog world.
Kim introduced Beckie and Poppie to dog shows. We travelled to many shows together — Kim, Nathalie, Beckie, and myself. Sometimes we camped, sometimes we stayed in hotels, and the girls both successfully competed in Junior Handling and often in the open rings too.
We had some great wins, and then again, sometimes we came home with nothing more than wonderful memories and full stomachs, because food was always part of the fun!
The dog shows further fuelled the passion for the breed that had crept into our very souls.
And then… a litter!
Yes, we were hooked. But we had so much to learn — and, as we all know, we are forever learning.
But anyway, there was no escape!
A few years later, the passion needed a name.
The name Ekho came from another pup from Dunrovin. Although Ekho never made it to the show ring because of a serious injury after an accident, we chose her name for our registered kennel name.
Labradors of Dunrovin and Ekho Labradors (Ekholabs), both from Borden, SK, were forever linked by a pure passion for this wonderful breed.
We each followed our own breeding paths, and yes, we brainstormed often. We admired each other’s dogs. We had occasional disagreements and differences of opinion too.
We competed at shows, but always came home friends.
We grew, we learned, and we were always moving forward, trying to improve.
So, each and every time we proudly post about our successes, it is a success we share with Kim Anderson and the Labradors of Dunrovin.
On a personal note…
Kim, you were:
My friend.
My neighbour.
My partner in crime.
My confidant.
My person.
Missed beyond words.
Until we meet again. ❤️
And to the lost Labradors of Dunrovin…
I will always remember each and every one of you.
