Our first ABI show
Saturday & Sunday June 27+28.
Valkyrie Dogos attended our first Abi conformation show. CH Valkyries Poseidon "Boy" showed wonderfully for the most part.
For the first show on Saturday Under judge Pat Iredale he was awarded WD, BOB & a group 2nd.
Second show Under Judge Sara Manzi he was awarded WD, BOB & a group 2nd!
Third show under Judge Linda Bronx he was awarded WD, BOB and another group 2nd. We couldn’t shake that second place, let me tell you, those Dobermen’s are hard to beat lol.
After the Second show, we showed in Canadian Bred.
Canadian Bred is a new championship in All Breed Dog sports, that dogs can earn. They must be solely bred in Canada to qualify and all dogs go in the ring together. Equally.
Under a careful evaluation of all the amazing dogs that were entered, He was given Select 3 and earned points towards his ABI championship. (Which would be 3rd place)
On Sunday he was a little slow to get going in the morning, he doesn’t always travel well & lacks sleep. It already had been a long weekend..
The first show on Sunday was judged by Jessica King, where he got WD, BOB and slid into 3rd place.
His handler and I decided it would be best for me to show him in the next show as I had to for the special held after.
He handled much better for the remainder of the shows.
The next accomplishment and the next judge were amazing.
For the weekends final show and the 2nd specialty, were judged by Will Alexander.
Boy handled well, picked up his pace, his movement was much better than his earlier show in the day. This Judge asked me if I bred this dog, and I said indeed I had. He said he was a beautiful representation of the breed. There aren’t many Dogo’s who get out and show in Canada….. it was a very different vibe then we’ve gotten in the past. Boy was awarded WD, BOB pulled another group 2nd.
Lastly we wrapped the weekend up with “Bred by Exhibitor” also judged by Will Alexander. I told Boy we had this, lets get it! Very much to our surprise, we were awarded “Reserve Winner”. The wonderful people who put on these events and run Oxford Dog Sports are always waiting on the sidelines. We were so overjoyed that we received this recognition. I took photos with the judge with our ribbon. The amazing Shawn awaited for us to give us his congratulations when we exited the ring. He had asked me if I knew who that is? I said no.
When we enter shows, I rarely check who the judges are. We go to showcase our dogs, win ribbons, points, meet other people, other dogs, promote well bred dogs and try and get other dogo people doing things with their dogs. (We have a couple currently and a couple more showing interest in doing some shows).
SO, WHO is Will Alexander. Will is a very seasoned professional handler and Judge. Will won a Best In Show with a beagle named Miss P at the 139th Westminster show in 2015
He also judged the Sporting group at 149th Westminster dog show in 2025. He has a very decorated career and we were very honoured to get positive feedback from him.
All in all the weekend was great! Thank you to the judges who took us into consideration and chose us for every placement we received. Thank you to John Michael for handling him and making the trip with us. Thank you to Oxford Dogs for putting on a great show. Thank you to the volunteers, other exhibitors and the ABI. You all put on an amazing weekend.

If you are interested in getting into some shows in Canada with your Dogo (they must be registered to show in conformation. I can not help you get your dogs papers. That is your breeders responsibility). Feel free to reach out. Your dogs must be well behaved, attending handling classes near where you are is a must. Always be watchful for your dog in any environment they are in. If you prefer a performance sport, I could also point you in the right direction. We will be attempting some barn hunt classes soon.
