Today as I lay in bed contemplating the day ahead, I was being deeply sniffed by a visiting dog. He stayed very close to my head and deeply exhaled my scent. Nose on my head, breathing in my essence. Our conscienceless began to form between us, uniting our spirits, tying us together as one. Being aware of this I noted how my thoughts slowed and breathing changed. Being in the moment …pure love enveloped me, swirling around me, layering me, expanding me. This beautiful gift offered to me. Everyday our loving pets are attempting to ground us, showing us the path to living in the moment. Being aware of the love around us. If only we would listen to what our furry friends have to offer us……

Scientists have uncovered a potential explanation for why some dogs experience seizures and other neurological issues after taking common flea and tick medications like Bravecto, NexGard, Credelio, Simparica, and Revolution. Real-world reports show that certain dogs, especially puppies, older dogs, or those with genetic vulnerabilities, can develop tremors, seizures, or other nervous system problems. The study suggests that these drugs may reach the brain through a “back door” pathway called centripetal (retrograde) axonal transport, bypassing the usual protective blood brain barrier. Additionally, certain chemical additives in the medications, such as PFAS compounds, may increase this risk by helping the drugs enter nerve cells or acting as neurotoxic agents themselves. Overall, this research highlights a previously underappreciated nerve pathway that could explain why some dogs are more susceptible to neurological side effects from flea and tick treatments.

Interesting study speaks on spay & neuter and the big C

First, no one wants unwanted litters! 🐶 Spay and neuter has saved countless lives, but the issue is more complex than we once thought.

A massive review of 40+ years of veterinary records (over 2 million dogs) revealed something important: neutered dogs, especially spayed females, were more likely to develop hemangiosarcoma, one of the most aggressive canine cancers. Spayed females faced up to a 72% higher risk, while neutered males had a smaller but still measurable increase, mainly for spleen tumors, not heart ones. Even after researchers matched dogs by age and time period, the link stayed strong, showing this isn’t just about early spay/neuter trends but how hormonal shifts can influence other body systems. The takeaway? Each dog’s biology, breed, and hormones matter…and when it comes to lifelong health, one size doesn’t fit all.

These findings remind us that traditional spay/neuter may carry risks, and alternative sterilization techniques, like ovary-sparing spay or vasectomy, should be considered to support long-term health.
