Too cute not to share! Kramer 💗

Kramer came to see us a few weeks ago after being treated for an emergency illness at another clinic, but unfortunately, he just wasn’t getting better. His family travelled all the way from Cranbrook — over 3 hours round trip! — after a friend recommended our clinic. We were incredibly honoured by the trust they placed in us! 🥹❤️

We admitted Kramer to the hospital and started intensive fluid therapy and medications to help get him back on his paws. Within just a couple of days, we were thrilled to see him feeling more like himself again! 🐶✨

Once he was well enough, Kramer headed home to finish recovering with his family, and he hasn’t looked back since!

Thank you for being the ultimate cutie, Kramer! We’re so grateful we could be there for you when you needed us most. Sending you lots of love and belly rubs! ❤️

Hawk wins Strange Case of the Week! 🏆🐱

Hawk came in Friday afternoon after his parents noticed that he had gone from pretty kitty face to scar face in a matter of 10 minutes! 😅 Unsure what had happened, they decided to play it safe and have him checked out before the long weekend.

Our initial exam revealed quite the surprise… Hawk had managed to get one of his own teeth stuck right through his upper lip! The swelling from the trauma had essentially locked the tooth in place, making it impossible to remove easily.

We sedated Hawk to keep him comfortable and allow us to gently free his lip from around the tooth. Thankfully, everything went smoothly! With a little help from some medications to take home, we expect Hawk to be back to his handsome self in no time. 💗

Hawk would also like everyone to know that the first photo is NOT his best side 😅🐱

Ducky! Our little FIP survivor! 💗

Ducky has had a strange history of intermittent illness throughout his early life, but one particularly serious episode nearly took him from us for good. After extensive investigation, we suspected he was suffering from Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), and further testing also confirmed a positive result for toxoplasmosis.

Unfortunately, Ducky was declining rapidly and appeared to be battling the most severe form of FIP — the neurological variant. Diagnosing this form can be incredibly challenging, and even specialist testing couldn’t provide a definitive answer. However, all the signs pointed in that direction, so the decision was as made to start him on potentially life-saving treatment.

We sent Ducky to Calgary where he began his medications in Calgary with the neuro specialists and once stable, returned home for us to continue his care. After countless blood tests, feeding tubes, special medications, and six long months of fighting, Ducky has finally been cleared! 🎉❤️

He may be left with a few minor neurological deficits as a reminder of the incredible battle he’s overcome, but he now has the chance to enjoy the rest of his life — and we couldn’t be happier for him!

A huge congratulations to Ducky for being such a little fighter, and to his wonderful parents for standing by him every step of the way. This journey has been anything but easy, emotionally or financially, and their dedication to giving Ducky every chance possible is truly something special.

Ducky is one very lucky little orange cat, and we’re so happy he got his second chance! 🧡🐾

Please stop by today or tomorrow to collect food or medical supplies your pet may need over the 3 day break. We’re open till 8pm today and 5pm on Friday. Call ahead for medications to ensure you’re not waiting when you arrive.

Chip 💗 One of our all-time favourite smiley boys! 🥰

Chip was found to have a bladder stone. We treated the UTI that had developed as a result and started him on a special urinary diet in hopes of dissolving the stone.

Unfortunately, further investigation showed that Chip’s stone was made up of material that cannot be dissolved with a urinary diet. This meant that surgical removal was necessary, so Chip underwent a cystotomy to remove the stone.

Chip had his surgery on Monday and came in today for his post-op check—and as you can see, he’s feeling pretty darn good! 💗

He’ll continue on his urinary diet to help reduce the risk of developing new stones. His stone has also been sent away for analysis, which will give us more information about its composition and help us better tailor his long-term management.

Way to go, Chip! We’re so happy to see that smile! 🐾💕

Sweet Josie! 💗🌿

Josie came to see us after developing sudden, persistent head shaking on her walk the day before. We checked her ears and took swabs, and thankfully, there was no sign of infection.

But on closer examination with the otoscope, we found the culprit! 👀 A nasty little grass seed had made its way deep into her ear and was trying to work its way into her eardrum.

Using alligator forceps with careful visualization through the otoscope, we were able to gently remove the entire grass seed. 🌱✨

Thankfully, because there was no infection or other complications, Josie didn’t need any medications to go home with. Just some well-deserved rest and relaxation! 🥰

Just a friendly reminder that Bellevue Veterinary Clinic will be closed this Monday, September 7th, for Labour Day.

If your pet needs any extra food or medications to get through the long weekend, please stop by today to pick them up.

For medications, please give us a call ahead of time so we can have everything prepared and ready for you when you arrive. ☺️

A personal note - an appreciation post to my amazing co owner, veterinarian husband - Dr Ian Gibson!

As many of our clients know we were running on limited veterinary availability for the past two weeks due to my absence while visiting my family and celebrating my grandmas 80th birthday in Australia. My amazing husband not only continued on at our clinic, but operated to a level that can cannot possibly be imagined.

He started work early to accommodate more patients needing care, regularly worked through his lunch breaks and saw 18 in-hours emergencies over the past two weeks. This does not include the after hours emergencies he did after the work day had finished. He worked the 8am-8pm Thursday shifts as the solo vet.

I don’t condone this level of hard work as a long term commitment, it’s not sustainable for anyone, but he did all this to give me a stress free break. I can’t be more grateful at this time in my life.

He says he couldn’t have done it without our amazing team, always there to give him a hand and help him smooth the chaos when it comes.

As always, many thanks to our amazing clients who were patient, understanding and cooperative during this time. Your kindness does not go unnoticed 💞
