In honour of August, which is Itchy Pet Awareness Month! Here is some information going into our change of season🐾
Is your dog or cat constantly scratching, licking their paws, or getting
frequent ear infections? It may be more than "just an itch."
Just like people, pets can develop allergies to things like:
🌿 Pollen and grasses
🏠 Dust mites and mold
🦟 Flea bites (even one bite can cause a major reaction!)
🥩 Certain food proteins, such as chicken, beef, or fish
Common signs of allergies include:
✔️ Excessive scratching, licking, or chewing
✔️ Red or irritated skin
✔️ Hair loss
✔️ Recurring ear infections
✔️ Overgrooming (especially in cats)
✔️ Licking or chewing at the paws
Did you know? When pets continually scratch and chew at their skin, they
damage its natural protective barrier. This can lead to painful bacterial or
yeast infections, making them even itchier and more uncomfortable.
The good news? While allergies can't usually be cured, they can be
effectively managed. Your veterinarian can help identify the cause and
create a treatment plan to keep your pet comfortable year-round.
If your pet has been itching more than usual, don't wait, schedule an
exam and let us help them find relief!
❤️ A comfortable pet is a happier, healthier pet.
