Sweet Charity "Friends for Life", Trained Medical Dogs Who Help People In Need! www.sweetcharity.ca What is a diabetes alert dog or DAD? Get involved!

A trained diabetes alert dog can detect changes in their handler’s blood sugar levels to avoid an impending hypoglycemic episode that they may not be aware of through their keen sense of smell and alert their handler through a series of tasks to avoid the episode that may cause coma or even death. This can happen as much as thirty minutes before a glucometer can detect the change. To date we have

trained and placed three dogs with three children with diabetes. You can meet these children under the “Meet the Kids/Meet the Dogs” link on our website. Families of children with diabetes bear 50% of the cost of training their dog. The remaining cost is borne by Sweet Charity. That’s why your participation matters so much. Each trained Diabetes Alert Dog is valued at $10,000. Sweet Charity and you, developing dogs that are Friends for Life. So many ways you can help us get trained dogs to kids with diabetes:
-Hold a fundraising event.
-Become a corporate donor.
-Become a recognized Sweet Charity supporter with monthly donations.
-Name a dog

Sweet Charity is proud to "Buddy Up" and partner with COPE Service Dogs—an organization in our community also doing meaningful work to support children and youth facing barriers through the help of trained dogs.

As part of COPE’s annual Buddy Up campaign, we’re excited to have our very own dedicated fundraising page in support of Sweet Charity, and we’re calling on our community to help us make the most of it!

All funds raised through this page go directly to Sweet Charity, helping us continue to deliver our vital programs and reach more children and youth who can benefit from the support of dogs.

🎉🐾 Happy Retirement, Rita! 🐾🎉
Today we celebrate the incredible journey of Rita, our loving and devoted Sweet Charity dog, who officially retired after many amazing years of service. 🦴💕
Since 2018, Rita has brought comfort, joy, and unconditional love to countless hearts in our classroomms. Whether it was a gentle nuzzle, a wagging tail, or simply her calming presence, she made every moment brighter for the students she met.
Her retirement day was filled with everything she loves — treats, stories from friends old and new, and a whole lot of love. 🐶💐
Thank you, Rita, for your years of compassion and dedication. You’ve left paw prints on all our hearts. Enjoy your well-earned rest, sweet girl! 🛏️🐕

The Sweet Charity Canine Ambassadors training and recertification session last night was amazing! We put the teams through “the water test” and had lots of fun 😊

The Spring CAP candidates are progressing nicely and it was great to see senior and recertifying teams!
