Meet Waldi, a lovable 2-year-old Goldendoodle whose story reminds us why community support matters.
Waldi was brought to Pine Grove Veterinary Hospital after experiencing severe vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and generally feeling unwell. During his examination, Dr. Allin discovered a large abdominal impaction and strongly suspected an intestinal foreign body.
After many difficult conversations, Waldi's family made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him to our care when the extensive surgery he required was not financially possible.
Our team knew we had to give this sweet boy a chance.
With the support of the entire Pine Grove team, Waldi underwent emergency surgery. What we found was a fully intact sock lodged in his intestines (check out the pictures!). The damage and inflammation were significant, and at the time of surgery, Dr. Allin wasn't certain if Waldi would be able to recover. But Waldi had other plans.
Following surgery, Amanda, one of our amazing Client Service Representatives, welcomed Waldi into her home and fostered him during his recovery. By the very next day, we started to see glimpses of the happy dog hiding underneath. His tail began to wag, his appetite returned, and his bright personality started shining through once again.
Over the next two weeks, Waldi made an incredible recovery and quickly became a favourite among the entire team.
Once he was healthy enough for adoption, we were faced with another difficult decision. Two wonderful local families stepped forward, both with personal connections to Pine Grove team members. After careful consideration, Waldi found his perfect match and, just three weeks after surgery, went to his forever home with the aunt of our Client Service Representative, Leah.
Stories like Waldi's don't happen because of one person—they happen because an entire community comes together.
A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated Pine Grove team and to our partners at Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Trupanion, , Antech Diagnostics Canada , and Merck. Your support helped make this second chance possible.
Today, Waldi is healthy, loved, and living his best life. ❤️🐾
