An important reminder: A local family recently found a bat inside their home. The bat was tested and came back positive for rabies. Thankfully, no one was hurt, and we as staff took all precautions—but it’s a powerful reminder of why ALL pets need rabies vaccinations, even if they never go outside.

Bats and other wildlife can enter homes through chimneys, attics, or small openings. Indoor pets can still be exposed, and rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear.

Keeping your pets up to date on rabies vaccines protects your pets, your family, and your community.

If you find a bat in your home, don’t touch it—keep people and pets away and contact animal control or your local health department.

Ticks are active well into fall and can pose health risks to your pets. Here's what you should know to keep your furry friends safe:

Do:

✅Check your pet regularly, especially after outdoor activities.
✅Remove ticks immediately with fine-tipped tweezers.
✅Pull straight up with steady, even pressure.
✅Monitor your pet for signs of illness after tick exposure.

Don't:

❌Twist or jerk the tick when removing.
❌Forget to check hard-to-see areas like ears, armpits and between toes.
❌Skip parasite prevention during cooler months.
❌Ignore symptoms like lethargy, fever or loss of appetite.

When in doubt, contact your veterinarian. Prevention is always better than treatment!
