Why do I work with dogs with? Because this is what I hear. This is what they’d be telling me if they could talk.
If you want your dog to experience this kind of freedom and structure, let’s talk. Not ready for off leash hikes yet? I offer Foundations Before Freedom training to build the confidence you and your dog need to get here together.
DM Freedom if you want this to be your dog.

Hear me out.

When your dog ignores you on a walk, rushes the door, or doesn’t come when called it’s not stubbornness.

It’s a communication gap.

Dogs repeat what works.
If pulling gets them forward → they’ll keep pulling.
If ignoring you has no consequence → they’ll keep ignoring you.
If rushing the door means the door opens → they’ll keep rushing.

None of that is defiance.
That’s a dog responding to what has been allowed.

The fix isn’t harsher corrections.
The fix is clearer communication and consistent follow-through.

Most “behaviour problems” are actually communication problems. 🐾

Your dog isn’t “a lot.” They’re just missing a few things.
I see it all the time dogs that pull, can’t settle, ignore their owners outside, bark at everything, or just seem like they’re always ON.
And the owners are exhausted, frustrated, and starting to wonder if their dog is just... broken.
They’re not. I promise.
After years of working with dogs, it almost always comes back to the same five things. I call them the 5 Pillars of a Balanced Dog:
🏛️ Structure — rules, routines, and boundaries that give your dog clarity. Without it, your dog makes their own rules. (And you won’t like the ones they choose.)
🏃 Exercise — not just burning energy, but purposeful movement. There’s a big difference between a structured walk and letting your dog drag you around the block.
🤝 Socialization — this isn’t about meeting every dog. It’s about staying calm around them. Neutral is the goal.
👁️ Engagement — your dog choosing YOU over the environment. This is the foundation of recall, focus, and everything else. If you don’t have this, nothing else sticks.
🧠 Fulfilment — mental stimulation and purpose. A fulfilled dog isn’t just tired — they’re satisfied. Bored dogs cause chaos.
Most dogs are missing at least two or three of these. And when even one is off, you feel it everywhere.
The good news? Every single one is buildable.
💬 Which pillar do you think your dog is missing most? Drop it in the comments I read every single one.

Most dog owners are confusing their dogs without realizing it.

Not because they’re doing anything wrong, but because their dog has no idea what their words actually mean.
that’s where the marker words come in
Three words. That’s all it takes to completely change how clearly you communicate with your dog.
➡️ YES means reward is coming right now. Say it the moment your dog gets it right, not a second later
➡️ GOOD means keep going. Use this to build duration. It tells your dog they’re still on the right track
➡️BREAK or FREE means you’re done, go be a dog. Without a realease word, your dog decides when they’re off duty. (Spoiler: they always choose immediately)

The biggest mistake? Saying YES and not following through with reward every single time.

Your market is only as powerful as your follow through

Start using those consistently for 5 days. Watch your dog start anticipating the reward the second they hear YES. That’s when training starts to feel almost effortless.

Swipe through the carousel for the full breakdown, and save this post so you have it handy for your next session. 🐾

Which of these were you already using? Drop it below.
