We had a great experience in puppy foundations! Having 8 sessions instead of the typical 6 or 4 is very helpful for young pups and great value for the price as well. The puppy social offering is run exceptionally well, it’s very clear that they take safety and confidence building very seriously. We are looking forward to continuing with our pups training at the Red Barn!

Great day of CKC agility at the Red Barn on Monday. Thanx judge Candie for flowy and challenging courses and to all of our SPD/ RB team and volunteers who worked so hard to keep the trial safe, efficient and fun. Congrats to everyone on your achievements!

🐾 The 4 D’s of Dog Training: Are You Making It Too Hard? 🐾

Even something as simple as a sit can be challenging for your puppy when we change the expectations! 🐶

When training any exercise, remember the 4 D’s:

🔹 Duration: How long does your puppy need to hold that sit before earning a reward or being released?

🔹 Distance: How far away are you from your puppy? How close is your puppy to distractions?

🔹 Distractions: What’s happening in the environment? Are there other dogs, people, or tempting things competing for your puppy’s attention?

🔹 Difficulty: Is your puppy sitting on a stable surface, or are you asking them to balance on something that adds another layer of challenge?

💡 The key to success? Change one D at a time! If you increase the difficulty, make the other criteria easier so your dog has the best chance of succeeding.

Great training isn’t about asking our dogs to do more. It’s about setting them up to understand what we’re asking and helping them build confidence along the way. ❤️

Congratulations to everyone who participated in our CARO Rally trials yesterday and thank you to our judges Nadia and Chantal and the hardworking RedBarn Team and volunteers who made the day fun and efficient.

CKC sports are a big part of the Red Barn culture. As a long time student and Red Barn volunteer we hope that our Red Barn family will consider voting for Elizabeth to represent our zone on the CKC Board of Directors.

We need someone on the CKC board of directors who has taken the time to learn about and participate in all of the CKC sports we host and Elizabeth has certainly done so over the last 10 years.
