Happy Veterinary Receptionist Week to the real front-line heroes of our hospital!
You handle ringing phones, wagging tails, worried pet parents, and the occasional surprise mess — all before lunch — and still manage to keep things running like a well-oiled machine. We’re pretty sure you have superpowers (or at least a secret stash of caffeine).

Thanks to the team for being the friendly face, the voice of calm, and the traffic controller of our daily chaos. We truly couldn’t do this without you — and honestly, we wouldn’t want to try.

-Kelly, Emily, Sam, Shannon, Raya, Diane, Alyssa, Heidi, Savanna, Melissa, Bridgette, Jess G and Natasha!

We were fortunate to have Dr Anthony Yu join our hospital today as a guest speaker, sharing his expertise with our team of veterinarians and technicians about small animal dermatology and specific skin issues and cases.

Dr. Yu graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1990, then completed a residency and Master’s degree at Auburn University in 1995. He became a board-certified veterinary dermatologist in 1996.

After 11 years in private practice in Portland, Oregon, he returned to Ontario as an Associate Professor at OVC, where he spent nine years teaching and mentoring students in dermatology.

Since 2013, Dr. Yu is in private practice focusing on chronic ear, skin, endocrine, and allergic conditions in dogs, cats, and horses.

Spring is here in the Barrie area, and while we’re all enjoying the warmer weather, it also means tick season is in full swing

Ticks are more than just a nuisance — they can carry serious diseases like Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, and Ehrlichiosis, which can affect both pets and people. With tick populations on the rise in our region, it’s more important than ever to stay proactive.

Early detection can make a huge difference in treatment outcomes, and prevention is always easier (and safer!) than treatment.

If you have questions about tick prevention or 4DX testing, reach out to your vet — we’re here to help keep your pets safe and healthy all season long.

So what is the tick risk in our area? Ticks become active whenever temperatures are above zero degrees. Based on the calendar posted as of yesterday, 18% of the last 2 months had "active" tick days in Barrie.

On a side note check out pararisk.ca - a very cool website that determines your pet's risk of parasites based on their lifestyle. Answer a series of questions and see their risk report.
