“He became a source of comfort, motivation, and emotional regulation...”
For students on the autism spectrum and those with diverse learning profiles, traditional classroom environments can sometimes feel overwhelming. When Ms. Vélez Morales integrated her classroom pet, Chencho, into daily routines, she noticed an immediate shift. Caring for him provided sensory, hands-on moments that boosted emotional regulation, encouraged verbal communication, and improved overall classroom behavior. “The project allowed me to address multiple intelligences and learning styles through visual, auditory, and hands-on experiences that supported inclusion and belonging.” — Ms. Vélez Morales
Every child deserves a space where they feel safe, calm, and capable of learning.
