Halloween is coming up, and there are a few things to keep in mind to keep your pets safe during spooky season:

👻 Make sure candy and chocolate are out of reach from furry family members.

🎃 Masks, costumes, sound effects, and spooky decor can be scary for pets, and they would probably prefer to be kept home during trick-or-treating.

💀 The front door opening and closing for trick-or-treaters creates an opportunity for pets to slip outside. Keep them in a secure room away from the door to prevent this.

Georgie has been coming to see us since she was just a baby. We see her regularly for a few things. She visits for laser therapy and Librela to help with pain management. She also has some ongoing allergy concerns that her humans keep under control with Cytopoint injections and Apoquel.

Georgie recently gave us all a scare when she ate some hair ties and needed surgery for an abdominal obstruction. Thankfully, she has recovered well. We are very grateful to her humans for taking such good care of her during that stressful time to get her back in tip-top shape! ❤️

Misty used to be a staff pet, but she still comes to visit us as a patient. We love Misty here! She has luxating patellas, which means her kneecaps slip out of place. As a result, she sort of skips while she walks. To manage this, she comes in regularly for Librela injections and has used our therapeutic laser.

Most recently, Misty has had some masses surgically removed and tested. Thankfully, they came back benign! Misty has bounced right back after her surgery, which we love to see. She has quite a zest for life. If you ever run into her, get her to show you one of the tricks her mom has taught her! 🐾

Today we remember and honour the survivors of Residential Schools as well as the children who did not make it home. Our thoughts are with the many families and communities impacted by Canada's Residential School system. Every Child Matters.

Cats are especially subtle with how they show pain, but the Feline Grimace Scale is a great way to observe if your cat is showing signs of discomfort. We encourage you to head over to their page as a resource to tell if your cat may be painful, but some key points include:

👂 Ear Positioning: Are your cat's ears rotated outwards?

👁️ Eye Shape: Is your cat squinting?

🐱 Muscle Tension: Does their face look tense?

🐾 Whisker Changes: Are your cat's whiskers straight instead of loose and curved?

🐈‍⬛ Head Position: Is their head lowered below their shoulders?

We encourage all cat owners to learn more about the signs of pain so cats can have health concerns addressed in a timely manner. The Feline Grimace Scale even has an app you can download to help guide you.
