I thought this was really interesting: when we train our dogs we're teachers, we're a life coach. When I take a dog into my care I am bringing them into an unnatural setting. I mean this in the sense they're not hard wired for this. Their instincts are designed for life without humans. Due to selective breeding certain breeds do better in different climates and yes some were bred for working with people like collies. However, that doesn't mean they can understand English or learn a moral code. The instincts that enhance their natural abilities are bred to be more dominant, they're still a dog, the same is true for horses. Selective breeding and domestication has strengthened instincts that allow them to learn. It is our responsibility to use our abilities to teach them how to function in our care. To be a good partner and allow them to understand and thrive.

There's a reason you very rarely see happy domesticated zebras and it's not because their instincts, intelligence, and thinking is drasticly different than a horse. Zebra's in some situations can do okay but that takes more time and money then most have and it's not really a good situation for anyone. Horses have all the same basic instincts but selective breeding means that certain instincts are stronger. That's why you can have wild mustangs, Icelandic, wild horses in AB, because they're still an animal with those instincts hard wired in. When we assume care for these animals it is our responsibility to provide an appropriate environment, food, and also provide for their mental wellbeing. They aren't humans, but they still have a mind and are still designed with species specific needs. Training is part of understanding and providing those species specific needs

LILY PASSED HER SERVICEDOG CERTIFICATION!!
Companion connections dog training, completed training and passed our first service dog team!!

Now waiting for my stomach to be okay.
Brand new haircut and certification

She did perfect on everything, very slight issue on excitement with another dog but lily refocused quickly and stayed attentive to me so no issues passing her.

WE DID IT!!!!
