Labour Day Holiday Hours

A friendly reminder that Trinity Veterinary Care will be closed Monday, September 7th for Labour Day.

🧡 Ginger Cat Appreciation Day! 🧡 September 1st

September 1st is Ginger Cat Appreciation Day, and we couldn't help but showcase Auggie, RVT Kristen's mischievous, charming, and oh-so-sweet ginger boy!

He is as ginger as they come, with a personality to match! From his mischievous antics to his sweet side, Auggie is the perfect example of why ginger cats hold such a special place in our hearts.

Did you know that most ginger cats are male? The gene responsible for the orange colour is carried on the X chromosome, which is why male ginger cats are much more common. Female ginger cats need to inherit the orange gene from both parents, making them less common — but we definitely do see the occasional gorgeous ginger girl!

🌈 Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day 🌈 August 28th

Today is a day to remember all of the pets who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

Some of them were with us for many years, and some for far too short a time, but they all leave behind memories that stay with us forever.

We remember the little things — the goofy habits, the favourite toys, the spots they loved to sleep, the way they greeted us at the door, and all the moments that made them so special to our families.

Losing a pet is never easy. They are family, and their absence is felt every day. Today, we remember those special companions and the love they brought into our lives.

Happy National Dog Day!

August 26th is National Dog Day, and we think that’s a pretty great reason to celebrate all the wonderful dogs who fill our lives with love, laughter, and—let’s be honest—a little bit of chaos!

From the puppies discovering the world for the first time to our senior sweethearts who have been by our side for years, every dog has a special way of making life better.

Today, give your dog an extra-long walk, an extra-big treat, their favourite toy, or simply a few more cuddles on the couch. They may not understand that it’s National Dog Day, but they definitely understand “who’s a good dog?”

At Trinity Veterinary Care, we feel incredibly lucky to care for so many amazing dogs and their families. Thank you for trusting us with your four-legged family members!

International Blind Dog Day - August 23rd

Today we’re celebrating all the amazing blind and visually impaired dogs who show us that losing their sight doesn’t mean losing their ability to live happy, fulfilling lives.

Blind dogs can still play, explore, cuddle, learn new things, and enjoy all the same love and companionship as any other dog. With a little patience, consistency, and some simple adjustments to their environment, they can continue to thrive.

Their world may look a little different, but their hearts—and their capacity for love—are just as big.

Today, give a blind dog an extra treat, a gentle cuddle, and a reminder that they are anything but limited.

🦟 Addy’s Heartworm Story: A Reminder to Stay Protected 🐾

Addy came to Trinity Veterinary Care for a dental procedure, and thanks to her mom choosing pre-anaesthetic bloodwork, we uncovered something completely unexpected.

Her bloodwork showed low platelets, which can sometimes be associated with tick-borne diseases. Further testing with a SNAP 4Dx test revealed that Addy was positive for heartworm disease. A blood smear confirmed the diagnosis by showing microfilariae (heartworm larvae) in her bloodstream.

Addy originally came to Canada from Costa Rica in 2024 and tested negative for heartworm months after she arrived. Addy was receiving a Bravecto product purchased in Costa Rica. Her owner believed Addy was protected because, in Costa Rica, there is a Bravecto product that does include heartworm prevention. Unfortunately, she had been giving her the version that only provides flea and tick coverage.

If you purchase preventatives outside of your veterinary clinic, please let your veterinary team know exactly what your pet is receiving—especially if it comes from another country. Products with the same or similar names may not provide the same protection.

Because heartworm disease can cause serious damage to the heart and lungs, Addy will be starting treatment to eliminate the microfilariae and adult heartworms. She will be closely monitored throughout the process over the coming months.

While the risk of heartworm transmission is considered relatively low in our area, it is still possible. Addy is a great reminder that prevention matters. ❤️

Regular heartworm testing with a SNAP 4Dx and monthly prevention, such as Simparica Trio or NexGard Spectra, can help protect your pet.

Meet Moose!

This handsome bulldog stopped by for his annual wellness exam. Moose wowed the team with his impressive tricks and patiently posed for the camera... complete with a little drool while waiting for his well-earned treats.
