The Atlantic Branch Strathcona Association is a not-for-profit group which began officially in 2012, as a Branch to the Regimental Association. This page was set up to spread the word about the Atlantic Branches' goals and activities. The Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) is a regular armoured regiment of the Canadian Army. Currently based in Edmonton, Alberta, the regiment is par

t of 3rd Canadian Division's 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group. Members of the regiment are commonly called Strathconas or Strats as a short form. The current Branch executive committee comes from the Gagetown area and most of the meetings to date have been held at the Legion in Oromocto, that said, there's scope to have a meeting in any of the other provinces, if the desire is there. There is no cost to be a member of the Association, and all activities to date have been pay as you go. We will also post updates for major activities on the Strathconas.ca website, under the Associations tab. Perseverance..

Dear Strathcona Family,

On behalf of the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) Regimental Society and Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway (CPKC), it is our pleasure to call for applications for the 2026 CPKC & Society Student Scholarship.

Our two organizations have worked closely for many years to increase awareness of the issues that military members and their families face. This generous scholarship program supported by CPKC is an incredibly beneficial program which has assisted many Strathcona families with furthering their education.

This scholarship offers annual subsidies totaling $15,000 toward costs incurred through enrolment in educational programs at the post-secondary level. Recognized programs include those offered by a university, community college or technical school in Canada.

Scholarship A: Service/Community Involvement. A $5,000 scholarship for post-secondary education to the child or spouse of a Strathcona, on active duty or retired from the CAF who has supported their community.

Scholarship B: Academic. A $5,000 scholarship for post-secondary education to the child or spouse of a Strathcona, on active duty or retired from the CAF, who has demonstrated academic excellence.

Scholarship C: Career Focused. A $5,000 scholarship for post-secondary education to the child or spouse of a Strathcona, on active duty or retired from the CAF, who has a desire to work in the railway.

Please visit the Regimental Society Website for details on eligibility criteria, the application process, and to find the scholarship application form. The application form is to be completed with all necessary enclosures to reach the Regiment not later than end of day on the last business day of May. Dear Strathcona Family,

Due to operational tempos and the Armour School calendar, The Strathconas at RCACS will be holding a combined Moreuil Wood and Melfa River event on 22 May 2026. This event will be a BBQ for all Strathcona’s past and present living in the Atlantic region. Former member of LdSH(RC), i.e. those that rebadged or retired, are more than welcome.

Since inception, Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) has embodiment our motto ‘Perseverance’, facing remarkable trials and remaining true to our purpose in service to Canada and our Allies. Annually, we mark these sombre occasions by gathering our comrades in arms to remember those that came before. As members of RCACS, CTC, and CADTC, we must also cast an eye to the future, acknowledging the roles we will play for those that will come after. It is at such times, we must remember “once a Strathcona, always a Strathcona”, no matter who you are or where life’s path will lead.

From the Strat E-News;

Strathconas,

It is with great sadness that I share the passing of Corporal (Retired) Jaret Louis Samson, who died on March 19 at the age of 48.

Known as “Frenchy,” Jaret was born in Arichat, Nova Scotia, on July 22, 1977. He enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in Halifax in July 1996. In 1997, he joined Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians), serving with the Regiment in Bosnia on the NATO SFOR mission that same year, and later with the Reconnaissance Squadron in Kosovo during NATO’s KFOR mission (1999). He was described by those who served with him on these missions as a great guy who was always reliable.

After his release from the Canadian Army in 2004, Frenchy returned to his hometown, where he built a life in the fishing industry.

The Regiment extends its deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

A celebration of life will take place from 12 to 4 PM on April 4th, 2026, at the Little Anse Social Action Club. https://www.tributearchive.com/obituaries/47785941/jaret-louis-samson

So,,,, it's late and I'm camping... I got hungry but really didn't want to heat anything up.. My wife says "There's chicken soup in the box, if you don't mind eating it cold". I found some crackers and grabbed what I thought was a can of chicken soup, and opened it with the can opener then realized what it was. (see picture).. Yummy.. 😀

Anyone know who's right in the middle? I do.. 😀 Congratulations!)

Reunion 2025. Brian Talty, Tom Falls and the Edmonton Branch of the Association have been hard at work planning next summer’s Regimental reunion. The following is a rough overview of key events:

Meet and Greet - Thursday, July 24th, 2025. This “icebreaker” at the WOs and Sgts Mess is a chance to catch up with old friends, as well as meet with our Regiment of today.

Change of Command Parade - Friday, July 25th. The Regimental parade will be held near Regimental Lines and followed by a post-parade reception, and a performance by the Strathcona Mounted Troop.

Golf tournament - Saturday July 26th. The traditional reunion golf tournament will occur on the Saturday morning at the Base Golf Course.

Reunion Regimental Dinner - Saturday July 26th. This will be a big western-themed dinner and dance at the North River Valley Events Centre. Dinner will be a buffet-style BBQ.

At one of Dan Charette's monthly breakfasts recently, a retired Strathcona (Patrick Gordon) was given the floor to speak about a local initiative he started up in St John NB. I know that there are many, 'MANY' worthwhile charities out there, but this one in particular is working to help with two issues at once, and if you're a Veteran or 1st Responder in the local area looking for a place to direct your energy, this might be right up your alley. He has plans for expansion across Canada and some awesome ideas, so if this seems like something you could get into, don't hesitate to reach out through the links on their website. Perseverance..!

"Operation Feed (formerly Operation Feed Saint John) is a local based non-profit organization, fighting to win the war on hunger, while providing support for our local veterans and emergency workers.
Saint John currently has a child poverty rate of 32.4%, one of the highest in New Brunswick & Canada. With the help of volunteers, donors and many of our regions veterans and first responders, Operation Feed is providing food for the hungry and purpose for those who seek it."

Operation Feed Saint John is focused on feeding hungry kids one day at a time. Join the OFSJ forces and donate today.
