💅Let's talk PAW-DI-CURES💅

Nail Trims are often forgotten, overlooked or procrastinated on because they can be a nuisance and sometimes our pets aren't the "best behaved" for them. Whether you’re new to the world of owning a dog or you’ve had one your whole life, it’s important to keep your dog’s toenails trimmed. While long nails may be a nuisance for you, they can be downright painful for your dog.

💅What happen's if you don't trim your dogs nails? ⬇
Your dog won’t be able to walk or run correctly when their nails get too long. This may cause them to put stress on different joints which can lead to problems like arthritis. As we stated earlier, long nails can also be painful for your dog. They may experience pain while walking, and their paws may eventually become infected.

🐈‍⬛All of the above applies for cats. They run a higher risk of having their nails curl into their paw-pads due to the shape/nature of their nails.🐈‍⬛

Scheduling regular nail trims with your groomer, vet or with yourself is essential for maintaining your pets' foot & nail health!

🎗 Yellow Ribbon Meaning for Dogs🎗

➡️ A yellow ribbon on a dog leash or collar signals that the pet needs others to keep their distance.
➡️ It can give other pet owners a sign that they should give way when out walking.
➡️It also communicates that you should ask the owner before attempting to pet the animal or let your dog close to it.

Always a good rule to remember when bringing in new dog (and cat!) into your home 🏡

Always a good rule to remember when bringing in new dog (and cat!) into your home 🏡

Understanding the 3‑3‑3 Rule of Dog Adoption:

Bringing home a new dog is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming, for both you and your newly adopted pup. The 3‑3‑3 Rule is a helpful way to understand what most dogs experience as they decompress and adjust to their brand new life.

Every dog is different. Some may need more than three months to feel comfortable and confident, while others may settle in within just a couple of weeks. This guideline helps set realistic expectations and reminds adopters to give their new family member the time, patience, and structure they need to thrive.

🐾 First 3 Days - Decompression
Your dog is likely feeling overwhelmed, unsure, and stressed.
They may sleep a lot, pace, pant, hide, or test boundaries. Some dogs won’t eat much; others may have accidents. This is all normal.
Keep their world small during the first few days. Limit visitors and outings so your dog has the space and quiet they need to decompress.
They’re simply trying to understand where they are and if they’re safe.

🐾 First 3 Weeks - Settling In
Your dog starts to learn your routine, feel more comfortable, and show more of their personality.
You may see new behaviours, both good and challenging, as they begin to relax and test the rules.
This is a key time for consistency, gentle structure, and positive reinforcement.

🐾 First 3 Months - Building Trust & Confidence
Your dog begins to feel like part of the family.
They understand the household rhythm, start to feel more bonded to you, and gain confidence in their environment.
Training progress becomes more noticeable, and you’ll see their true character shine through.

Adoption is a journey, not an instant transformation. With patience, routine, and compassion, your dog will learn that they are finally home and are safe, loved, and understood.

As an adopter of Sit With Me, if you ever need support during the transition, our volunteers are always here to offer advice. You’re not alone in this journey, and neither is your dog. ❤

❤️‍🩹Heartworms are a serious and potentially deadly parasite that is transmitted by mosquitoes.

❤️‍🩹They can cause severe damage to your pet's heart, lungs, and blood vessels if left untreated.

❤️‍🩹Fortunately, heartworm disease is preventable with regular testing and the use of preventive medication.

Our team can help you determine the best protection plan for your pet, depending on their lifestyle and health status, as well as any local parasite risks in our area.
