What a beautiful Loving Owl…. 🤍🦉🤍
🦉 She can't hunt. She can't live in the wild. She just raises everyone else's babies — and she's been doing it for 26 years. 💛
Casper is a Great Horned Owl living at the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society in Delta, British Columbia. She arrived in 1999 after being caught in a leg-hold trap that left her missing talons, making survival in the wild impossible.
But Casper had something else entirely going on.
The first time she was placed near a baby owlet, she immediately tried to get into its cage. When staff removed the barrier, she was feeding the chick within an hour. Just like that, a calling was found.
In the 26 years since, Casper has fostered over 500 orphaned owlets — teaching each one to fly, to catch prey, and critically, to fear humans. That last lesson is the one that keeps them alive once they're released. Her attitude toward people is described by staff as having "a little edge to her," which turns out to be exactly what her babies need to carry into the wild.
She currently has four fledglings in her care, all between six and seven weeks old, all rescued from different situations, all now looking up at the same surrogate mother who has guided hundreds before them.
She won't be released. She doesn't need to be. She already found her purpose — 500 times over and counting. 🌿
